rec.autos.simulators -- stretching the definition a bit? <G>

I just ran across this info on a new game called "Traffic Giant" --
it's supposed to bring you "all the thrills of managing a city's
transport needs," including mass transportation, busses, and (here's
the r.a.s. tie-in), automobiles.

Sounds a bit wacky, but then again, it may be a slow news day, so talk
amongst yourselves on this one:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

FWIW, I found the link to this on the same site for the folks who are
doing the "Historic Rally Trophy" sim, and they have a couple of new
screen shots:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Historic Rally looks VERY good -- there's something about the graphics
that reminds me of NFSPU for some reason (which isn't a bad thing --
just an observation on my part).  Let's hope the physics modeling
matches the graphics.

While Traffic Giant gets a pass, Historic Rally
Trophy is looking better and better.  Can't wait
to start driving much too fast through the forests
of Finland.  :)

I just saw the other day...that Superbike 2k+1 was made with the same
engine
as NFS/PU.  Perhaps thats why folks like it so much.

It's a stretch yes, but it is a sim and it is about autos and it is
recreational so.... whats the problem? :-)

Is it intended to be a simulator? No.  Read the charter for this newsgroup.

Sounds like what I do for a living, which is transport planning. Is
there a demo somewhere ? Would be fun to try out.

Niether was one of the games he posted. It was a strategy game about
transportation.

Okay, you definition nazis are annoying me.  If you want to get
technical, "Traffic Giant" is a strategy game ("rec") that SIMULATES
("simulators") vehicular ("autos") traffic patterns.  Put it all
together and it seems like all the elements are there (i.e., "rec,"
"autos," and "simulators").

Sorry for posting something that did NOT specifically mention GPL, N4,
or any other Papy product.  Forgive me Father for I have sinned . . .

The the game I posted belongs here too. It simulates Woody Woodpecker
racing cars.

hehe, this is going nowhere.
If its computer based and about motorised vehicles then it more than likely
has a place here, argue as you will.

Agreed. I think it's quite a subjective qualification. (Sim V Arcade)

I do beleive (for example) that a "Simultation" could be achieved easily
without real world vehicles or race tracks, or even in a futuristic setting.

You mean like Ratbag's "Powerslide" title?  Convincing 4-point
physics, futuristic vehicles, fantasy post-apocalyptic tracks.  Decent
"sim" overall, and a lot of fun!

So we can discuss about Carmageddon and Grand Thief Auto?  I don't think so
;)

Anyway the charter is God here...
