I guess I'll just have to go next year to find out its official name...and
maybe as long as I'm there I'll watch the race too!  I never really got into
rallies that much, I've only ever seriously followed NASCAR but occasionaly
watch NHRA and World of Outlaws along with some of the local drags and
circle track action.  I guess as long as its so close and sounds like a
pretty big thing I'll have to make it out there next year.

Pat's right - you're doing well!  One thing I'd toss in about racing online is to learn to drive consistent laps;  lots of online
racers can do quick laps but throw it all away by spinning off several times a race.  One off will cost you a lot more time than the
tenths you might have gained by pushing the limit.  Save the 110% stuff for offline practicing and GPLRank and your online results
will be the better for it.

Good luck, (and watch out for Surtees...;-) )

I found a site with some old rally results from "my era"  The other guy I was thinking of was John
Buffum, and the race in Southern OH was called SunRiser not sundowner like I incorrectly stated in
my previous post.  you'll see that the UP rally was referred to as POR.

I shouldn't worry too much about the actual time - consistency and
smoothness are more important. There's no point in turning in 1:28s if
you're going to crash every other lap. Pat Dotson is pretty much right
to say that 1:30 is a bit of a benchmark, though plenty of people
online ehave a good time with consistent 1:31s or 1:32s because they've
learnt basic racecraft (getting out of the way of faster cars etc).

Personally I learnt on the Lotus, which is exactly what a lot of people
say *not* to do! It does seem to be largely a matter of personal
preference - when you get comfortable with one car, stick with it for a
while.

Circuits? I can't imagine learning the tracks on a strictly one-at-a-
time basis - when I got bored with Monza I went off to Spa; when that
became tiring I had a go at Rouen; and so on. Made things much more
interesting. Spa in particular is a great beginner's circuit - not too
many corners to remember yet very fast, lots of gradients and a good
challenge.

One last thing - you have turned off *all* the driver aids, haven't
you? If not, do it now - otherwise you'll have to learn to drive the
car almost from scratch later on.

you are making good progress.  Make sure you lower your fuel to only
enough to run 7 or 8 laps...(depending on the track)  Most people prefer the
Cooper(called Covington in the game) or the Ferrari.  Neither is the fastest
but are very balanced.  If you choose the Ferrari, find Eagle Woman's site
and grab her sweet red candy setups...these are very stable and will allow
you to concentrate on driving not setting up a car.
good luck.

Lol, "that other guy". It's JB! I have his biography damnit! :) (signed too)
BTW, the Rally in PA is STPR (Susquehannock Trail Pro Rally) Been going to
that one since I was 6, then I started going to Maine last year, and went to
Cherokee Trails for the first time this year. I pretty much go to every
rally a club rally team close to me goes to me. It's so great, except I
always feel guilty cuz I get to go so many places I normally wouldn't be
able to go.

Anyway, go to http://www.specialstage.com/ It's the central US Pro Rally
meeting place, has a nice forum, articles from all events (some written by
me) etc. I'm RallyBrat in the forums BTW.

Thanks,
Alex
