Well, I finally broke down and got GPL. After hearing you guys rave about it
for the past who knows how long, I thought I'd see first hand what all the
fuss is about. Sorry for doubting you guys... Man, this is a blast. My lap
times really suck, but I'm having fun at Monza for now.

I have the 1.201 update, GPLRA, the glide patch (still stuck with a voodoo
banshee card). Are there any other 'critical' patches/updates/utils that I
should get?

Thanks for ruining my life :)

Check out this page.  It's a beginner's guide to Grand Prix Legends.  I was
just like you and very recently was able to get Grand Prix Legends to work
with my Geforce 3 card.  Now I see what I've been missing!!!

There are links here to the many patches.

You're not the only one, I ordered a copy through purplus.com last night.
Now that I finally have a new computer (old one was a P133) I reinstalled
the demo with the OpenGL upgrade and was basically blown away!  Just with
that it looks like a practically new release, so I can't wait to see what
all the car and track updates/addons look like.  Now I'll have to decide if
I need to get a wheel/pedal setup or stick with my trusty joystick of 6
years.  My SS rating for N4 is currently a 7, so the old joystick can't be
too bad!

Now this is the kind of attitude we like to see here on RAS. <g>

That's what it's all about and, IMHO, it gets better the better one gets.

Well, learning the supplied tracks will do you for a while. Then I think the
next step to achieve full blown ***ion should be to go to www.vroc.net
and start racing online. This will introduce more tracks and encourage a
system upgrade. After which you could start to think about getting some
snazzy scenery and cars and so on. ;-)

Hey, no problem!

Hey Scott, I see you go to MTU, so I was wondering if you went to the Lake
Superior Pro Rally this year. Sweet event, at least it looks like it is. I'm
going to make the trip up someday, but in the meantime I go to rallies
around here in PA.

Just wondering, as I knew Houghton was the collegetown for MTU and the
rally.

Thanks,
Alex

I've never made it yet, just read about it in the school paper.  A lot of
the teams stay right here in town, and this year I went with a couple of
friends to one of the local hotels and checked out some of the cars while
they were registering at the hotel.  We even talked to a few crewmen, but
they couldn't chat for too long with the busy weekend ahead and all.  One of
these years I'll have to check it out for real...

The SCCA Pro Rally is the official name according to the MTU Lode.  How was
it when you went?

Nope, they stopped calling it POR in the early 90's I think? I'm only 14,
and my first rally was in 93, so it's a bit beyond my time :)

Thanks,

Hi again,

I just turned a 1:33.945 at Monza and was wondering if this is about what my
times should be after driving for a little while. Also, I'm using the
brabham and am wondering what the best car to learn on is?
I guess I could start trying to learn the other tracks eventually though
seeing as I can't make a lap on any other track yet :-)
Thanks all for the links

1:33 is pretty good!  Keep it up.  1:30 is sort of
a milestone at Monza.  If you can run 1:30's, you
can do OK online.

Lot's of people like to start with the Coventry
(Cooper).  Lotus is about the fastest, but it
is also the hardest to drive.

Well its not the only SCCA Pro Rally....  :)  It used to be called the POR for "Press On
Regardless",  and of course I assume it still has stages all over the UP(at least in the Copper
Country area), when I was there it was Rod Millen and his 4-wheel drive RX-7, and there was someone
big in an Audi Quattro but for the life of me I can't remember his name.  There was(hopefully still
is) quite a good rally in PA called Tiadoughton(sp?) that I used to go and work stages at, plus
Chillicothe, OH, (Sundowner)etc...

PS-I was Class of '90, see what happens when you start getting older....
