Heat Interview with Dan McJilton of Infogrames and Deiter of RacersDomain

by Bruce Mood » Sun, 01 Apr 2001 09:03:28

Hi everyone,

Dan McJilton of Infogrames was nice enough to consent to an interview
and answer some questions about the next patch for Nascar Heat and a little
bit about Nascar Heat 2.

Read all about it on the news page 03/30/01 at the below link.

I doubt that.  While N4 and Heat have similarities, I drive both and can
tell you that I like both.  However, for a pure racing feeling Heat wins
hands down on the "feels like racing" category.  They also kick some serious
***on the "Great Graphics" with medium computer horsepower required
compared to the N4 computer horsepower requirement.  Don't get me wrong,
there are a lot of things that I really like in N4 especially as a league
administrator.  If we could merge all the best of both games then we'd all
be in racing nervana ;o) Deiter

I respect your opinion but for pure racing feeling for me N4 wins. The
graphics in N4 look photo realistic compared to the cartoonish look
of Heat and finally N4 runs better on my W2K box then Heat. Its
all a matter of what you like.

Just curious; have you tried the "desaturate graphics" choice in the
options.ini file in NH?  I thought that made the graphics much more
realistic.  I still think N4 has better scenery, though I like the look of
the cars better in NH.  And it IS kinder to my old CPU...

Cheers,

Steve B.

Let's just say that I disagree completely.

I haven't tried the desaturate graphics setting but would like to what is
the verbage and what section does it go under in the options.ini file?

LOL, that's ok I don't mind if people disagree.  That's what makes the Inet
so cool!  ;o)  Also, as a great philosopher once said; "I may disagree with
what you say, but I will fight until the death for your right to say it."

Hi Bruce,

The change you make is to "desaturate textures", and you simply change the
"no" to "yes".   The line is the 1st in the graphics (GX) section of the
options.cfg file, which is in the main nascar heat folder (the one with the
exe, most probably program files/hasbro interactive/nascar heat).

Where you see:
[GX]
desaturate_textures no

Change it to:
[GX]
desaturate_textures yes

And that's it - I think NH looks much more realistic this way, personally.
Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Steve B.
