GPL Install Prob. (ActiveMovie)

by Gary » Tue, 11 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I'm recovering from a HD crash.  When I try to install GPL is says it
cannot install ActiveMovie because I already have a newer version.
Uninstall it and rerun setup.  GPL won't work so I am assuming that is
the problem.  I have uninstalled Media Player, Real Video and every
other player on the PC.  I still get the same error message.
Suggestions??  I need my GPL!!

GPL Install Prob. (ActiveMovie)

I don't know if this helps, but when I installed GPL yesterday, I got
the same error message and ignored it. Then I patched it with openGL2
drivers and the 1.2 patch. Now, as I loaded GPL the GPL CD was
unintentionally left out of my cd drive. It prevented me from racing,
but I had a look at some of my old replays.

OK, next thing, I go back to Windows, pop in the CD and rerun. Nothing.
A second try, again nothing. On the third try it starts loading the game,
but the menus are flashing and my mouse doesn't work, eventually it
crashes the computer and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del. I tried it a couple more
times, always with the same result.

I reinstalled the whole thing, but again, the game would start only
if I didn't have the cd in. Luckily I found a NO-CD "patch" at
www.fast.... something, someone help me out here, I can't remember
the address. Anyway, with the NO-CD crack it is now working great!

Maybe that will work for you too!

BTW, I'd love to hear some tips on this problem I got. I have a direct
connection to the net ( I mean a network card plugged into a hole in the
wall, I don't even know how fast it is, but it's FAST ) but I have yet to
play the game online. My PB times are quite good on some tracks, ( I think
they are? Watkins Glen 1:05:33 and Monza under 1:29 ) but I don't consider
myself very reliable, I spin too often and my lap times vary way too much!
Also, I'm driving with an old Thrustmaster GP1 wheel, which sometimes
( not frequently, but still ) stops working in the middle of the game. These
things mean that I'm a bit afraid of human opponents as I would probably
just end up ruining someones day by crashing into him/her...

So, where to start? What I need is some consistency in my driving so I
can drive online! I know, it's practice, practice, practice, but if any
of you were like me and have a hint or two, I'll be happy to hear them!

PS. I'm also worried that if I get into online GPL, I'll have to sleep
at work to get any sleep at all... :)
