My 486dx2-66 (AMD) with 8mb ram and ET4000/w32p VLB reaches 50.0. You should
try every BIOS setting that has something to do with wait states and maybe
others too. Just make sure you can return the original values. I don't think
you can break or damage anything by trying out every possible setting, but
I won't take any responsibility, so do it at your own risk, cause I don't
know about all the different mother boards out there.

 That's weird.  I have a 486DX2/66 with 16 meg, a 2 meg Diam. Stealth32
 VLB card (also et4000/w32) and I get 50.0 fps.  I think your system
 should be capable of like 60+ fps.  Should double check everything is
 configured properly.  

  I have AMI too...  I think 1994.
