GPL Newbie And XP Nightmare

HI All:

Well, after many years, I have FINALLY bought a new computer. I
installed GPL that I've had on the shelf waiting for this day.

All seemed to go well during the install. The sound check was okay.
However, there was a pop up window that said something about the
Acti-movie or something not being up to date? But it went on and
installed.

Once finished installing, I could view the video and the readme txt.
However, when I attempted to launch the game, I saw a brief GPL main
menu screen, and then I get dumped back to the desktop. That's all it
does: Brief view of the GPL menu screen, dump back to the desktop.

I have uninstalled the sim and decided to seek help here.

Here's my machine's particulars:

"emachines" brand
1.3 GHZ Celeron
Intel MAX-Direct AGP 3D
128 MB SDram
etc

I have a Thrustmaster Nascar Pro wheel/pedals that XP says is
recognized and functioning properly.

ANY help would be much appreciated. I'd sure like to try this sim that
I've read so much about.

Go to www.papy.com and get the D3D-patch (as well as the latest GPL
patch).

Install those.

Also, make sure you have the up to date videocard drivers and DirectX.

Good luck! :)

GPL is running just fine here on Windows XP Pro (NTFS partition), however,
as has been mentioned you do need the updates available from
http://www.racesimcentral.net/;When you install GPL, immediately install the proper
updates before clicking anything to start it.  If it doesn't run properly
then, check to see if you've got Indexing turned off.  GPL seems to ***on
itself unless Indexing is on.

Hi

As someone else talk about it, turn the indexing service on for the
GPL directory and all subdirectories. I had exactly the same problem
as you and now everything is perfect.

Good luck

John
