GP2: Can the cars be steered?

by Louie » Thu, 24 Oct 1996 04:00:00

Hi all,

This may really be a silly question but I have to ask.  I just got GP2
last week and it has been a blast with great graphics and sound.
Initially I was playing at a Rookie level with pretty much all the
help features on.  Today I turned off the help features (and boy do I
suck!) and I noticed I can't really steer the cars.  I have more
control than with the steering help on but I still can't do what I
want.  Even during practices I can't do a U-turn or even turn beyond
45 degrees from the direction of the track.

With Nascar and ICR I could steer anywhere I wanted although the cars
did have large turning circles.  On GP2 I can downshift until the
U-turn symbol comes and and spin around that way.  But if I am going
down a straight, then turn the wheel fully to the left or right the
car turns nicely at the beginning then at about 45 degrees or so the
car will not turn any further even if I am at a very wide area of the
track.  This feeling that I am on rails is kind of ruining the fun.  I
realize it helps me a lot but still I like to crash.

Is there a way to have total control of the steering?  I haven't tried
pro level yet but I will tonight.  Any help would be appreciated,
thanks!
Louie.

Yep. Use a Joystick or a wheel. I use a joystick with all the help options
off and it is really great to drive.

I don't if this will help.  Under control methods, click on advanced options.
Try setting Reduce With Car Speed to 0%.  This will allow you to do tighter
turns at faster speeds.  You may also have to play with Maximum Lock setting
depending on what you are using for controls.

turn steering help off.
i believe the help features u said u turned off where the ones that are
assigned function keys and can be accessed from the***pit.  steering
help requires going into your Control Method option from the menus (main,
i think).  if you are a keyboard player, you're stuck, buy a joystick.

Thanks a lot guys (got 7 responses in one day, mostly via E-mail!).
Turning off the Steering help under the advanced control options
screen did the trick.  Man I should  stop playing the game and really
give the manual a good going over! :-)

Now that I have total control I really love this game!  I crash real
good!

Happy racing,
Louie T.

Best to ask your questions here. The manual sucks.

Great game I reckon. Also great to see people making nice up to date
carsets. I'm afraid I dont have the time or talent to paint them the
way those guys do.

If your U-Turn symbol is still available, then you are still
using steering help.  Turn it off and you will be more
controllable.
