GP2 Track Pack - first impressions

Hi Everybody

I've been reading this group for quite a time now and finally decided to
post something.

I've just downloaded and installed the instant access track pack demo and
my first impression is that it's very good. Although I don't know Paul
Ricard the track seemed excellent - there are a couple of awesome corners -
the car handles fine - as of yet I've only had a quick practice and haven't
tried a race yet so there's still stuff to check out - but if the rest of
the pack is as good as the demo then it's definitley worth getting. So go
check it out.

By the way does anyone know if there is a Nascar2 league/series similar to
Hawaii or the up and coming NRO series available to people in the UK -
please don't forget us papy.

cheers

I agree it's very well done - not as polished as the original tracks (the
scenary is suceptible to "draw ahead" and the armco flashes on & off
occasionally) - but it's nice to have an extra track to drive at.

My only real concern is that there are absolutely no gradients in this
version of Paul Ricard. I know the real track is pretty flat, but surely
not this flat! I hope that the other tracks model this better.

BTW - best time so far: 1:05.334 (no aids)

Sadly this looks unlikely ATM. And even if someone over here had a very
good Internet connection we are still barred from NRO since I understand
that Ten won't accept subscriptions from outside N. America :((

Cheers,
Richard

>Hi Everybody

>I've been reading this group for quite a time now and finally decided to
>post something.

Hear hear!!!

But I did find some peculiar things that makes one wonder and think
:"Hmmmm."

The in the demo included***pit has trouble with my Dutch settings, in so
far, that it puts more characters on the line of fuel load and the tires
when you are in the pit, and the current lap time and fastest lap time are
placed ON TOP of the steering wheel.

Car handling indeed is excellent, and it is by far the EASIEST to learn
track.

Also, it's the track that is most fuel efficient. One run on the track
consumes 0.6 of the fuel on board. And I've not yet re-adjusted my gearbox
so I'm fully redlining about 80% of the track in 6. Thus high fuel
consumptions, thus:

SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THE FUEL CONSUMPTION!!!!

I have no other explanation. I should actually be using a lot more than one
lap worth of fuel with my present gearbox, but I don't.

I think the fuel consumption figures used by GP-2 are those of the original
track, and that those numbers are time-related. The laps on Paul Ricard last
only 1:14:XXX so that's fast and short.

Also, a good deal of the camera-positions are useless as all you see is
large pixels and then a glimpse of the car.

But all in all, it's nice. IF the released full version takes care of the
mentioned problem, it's a hit. If not..... I'll exchange the***pits for
some from the net and take the efficiency as a bonus and set my fuel in the
pit a lot lower. Hope the AI ***s it, than we all have an advantage over
the computer controlled cars.

You can get 3 and a half lap out of 2 laps fuel. One lap is 0.6 lap fuel
consumption. That can't be right.

I understand IA will send out a programmer to each of us, for
installation and some last minutes changes. Just email them your
address and a date for their visit.

Of course they'll offer to do this free of charge...

...in an other universe, maybe...

He's right you know. I was racing for 3 laps with 2 lap fuel and I felt weird.
Holy cow, if JV were to have such fantastic car, he would have only need to pit
once! Anyway, the track is good, but wrong at certain parts. There certainly is
a portion where the cars have to go downwards slightly but the pit to the exit
is straight and levelled. Certainly, Instant Access could have done better.
Perhaps, it's only a beta test?

I don't know whether this is a beta version or not, but in the
final version, you'll be able to adjust the camera angles and
fuel consumption. I admit that I don't know much about the
real Paul Ricard track, but I have to say this one is quite fun.

Well when I made my original post I had only played with the new track for
five minutes but since then have played around with it a bit - I see what
you mean about the fuel problems - could it be using the original
"coding(???)" from magny cours - just a thought. Also I don't much like
some of the camera angles - looking at your car through a solid object is
no
good now is it??

However the strangest thing I have come across is a car's time being wiped
from the board - during a qualifying session I saved the game and came back
to it later when I accelerated the time I was sure that I saw myself move
up a place!!!   I couldn't be sure however - when I looked at the session
times one of the cars hadn't posted a time but when I restored the same
game - the very same car did indeed have a time on the board - so was it
wiped out or not - perhaps he passed a waved yellow without slowing down!!!
   Anyone else noticed it

Still I think the track is not too bad - to call it ***-as I have
noticed is not exactly fair. But as I said I don't really know PR - I do
however know Brands Hatch very well and as it has been pointed out if it
doesn't 'go up and down' (***English I know) then I'll be very
disapointed.

Thanks to those who gave info on TEN and NRO situation - was as I feared -
however I have noticed that thrust world uk offer a *** service -
apparently with good latency - one of the games they support is nascar2 -
anyone tried this and if so is it any good?

sorry for the long post - cheers

Andy

says...

The main problem I have seen is the fuel consumption is way off.  Having set a
pit strategy of 2 stops (33% and 67% race distance) the initial load was 26
laps worth but it still had 12 laps worth left at the first stop.  I had
noticed it when qualifying but it really shows in a full-length race.

In other respects, I can't wait for all the other new tracks, I'll buy it just
for the Albert Park circuit to see if I can launch myself into the lake :).
