There are two console buttons, they are *not* on the wheel.  You could use
them for up/down shift but I don't.  There is also a small shifter lever
slightly to the right of the wheel, in about the same place as you'd find
one in an IndyCar.

That is unless you have an IndyCar with electronic pushbutton shifting ;).
