1996). Whilst the review did not have much in the way of details about
the *features* of the game (other than to say that there are many), it
did have some interesting things to say regarding speed:
"F1GP2 has the fastest polygon engine that currently exists on the PC.
In both VGA and SVGA it easily outpaces all its rivals, running at
around 25 frames per second on a slow Pentium in VGA and near that on
a P100 with a decent graphics card on a P100"
"For those with a lower end PC it is possible to alter the scenery
using the extremely effective in-race detail settings. This enables
even a 486/66 to run the game quite adequately".
Comments like these make me wonder if:
a) There are two versions of GP2 out there - one optimised and one not
- and magazines are reviewing different versions.
or
b) Magazines are simply making these reviews up !
I rather hope it is a) !! For what it's worth, Edge gave the game a
score of 9 out of 10. I find their reviews usually reliable - if
sometimes a little harsh (particularly if the reviewer is not a fan of
the genre of the game he is reviewing). They gave ICR2 5 out of 10 - a
mark with which I do not agree - the same reviewer went on to give the
graphically excellent but limited in lasting playability Ridge Racer
Revolution (Playstation) 7 !!!
