Was in the '67 Monaco race. It was pretty much an awful incident from
what I've read;
his car turned upside down on the exit of the chicane, he was okay, not
that bad a hit, really.
Then it caught fire.
No marshals were kitted to help him soon enough. People watching the
race said that whenever there
was not a car passing, they could hear him scream. To add to this, a
helicopter from a TV company
wanted to get a close look, and the wind from the rotors didn't help
putting the fire out.
Makes you feel lucky not to have to see such bizarre accidents in
motorsports today.
