These are also very good recommendations.
It is also _possible_ that there is an issue with the on-board cache on your
new processor. I've seen this cause similar problems on IBM office
computers back when the 300xl was shipping with PII's.

That is not too hot. Something may be amiss in your bios settings. Try going
into your bios and make sure the new 1700+ is identifying correctly. Check
that the fsb is set correctly. You might also try loading optimized defaults
in the bios. Also, how old is your bios version? Perhaps you may need to
flash it to a more current version, but I wouldn't try it while the system
is unstable. I would put the older processor back in and make sure it is
stable prior to flashing the bios.
