No flame Don.  I'm 45 and trying to get into the 230 MPH range at Mich.
I'm a die hard Winston Cup fan but Indy Car II will be on my hard drive
soon.  Good racing!!!!!!!!!

I find 237.982 hard to believe.  I could get about 232.730 while
qualifing.  Maybe ran 50 laps so far but I don't think I can get another
5 MPH out of it.

O.K. I went back and played for a bit and recalibrated my pedals and
managed to get a 237.338 in preseason testing, still only 234.733 for race
qualify.  Is the car set-up different between these different sessions?

Yes, he's 50, One Leg, bad eyes, and is still in the top 10 in the NASCAR
Racing League (on the Papyrus BBS) despite having retired a few races
ago.  Don't be too gentle, make no mistake, he knows how to handle a race
car (virtual race car that is).

Sorry Don if I blew your cover.  I just don't want the young 'uns
mistaking you for easy prey.

Running default settings, I qualify at 236.xxx.  I find to get decent
performance out of my DX2/50, I need to use fm sound rather than digital
though.

did a 237.xxx with the default setup with my second tank of gas. No big deal.
After running a few laps with the real ICR 2.0 on the other ovals, it is
pretty obvious that old records will fall soon - I predict Michigan to top out
near 247mph, possibly higher (at normal weather). Papyrus got the AI right,
but hte speeds on the ovals are (with the exception of Nazareth) well out of
whack with reality - in my very first laps at milwaukee I blew Fabi's track
record of by ove 15mph... A 190mph lap at the ICR 2.0 Milwaukee doesn't seem
that impossible, since I got to 182+ in only 4 laps without even touchin the
setup yet.

Still - tsince the AI runs similar speeds, and they are smarter than I am
right now, the new game really blows away ICR 1.05 by a good margin.

A 190mph average at Milwaukee? I can get to 185 at the end of either
straight and 150-160 in the turns, but you'd have to be on a mission from
God to be turning a 182mph average lap.

well - I am up to 185.491 at Milwaukee, and I am still not even
close to klnowing how to properly set up that thing. Top speed
is close to 198 at each end of the straight and I do have
to lift off the gas to stay in the turns, but shifting through
several gears and with thousands of laps of experience in ICR1,
the 185+ lap came after only 50 or so laps. I am sure that once
I put my 1000 laps in at each track, the 190 will be in
the books.

The contrast to real speeds at these ovals is striking. Makes
me wonder how much testing was actually done (or who decided
to ignore what beta testers were telling them...)

i haven't got the game yet ,not available yet, but from the demo
i noticed the comp cars qualifying at 240mph on 100% at Michigan,
which is pretty quick. what do they do at 120%.

Michigan is pretty close - a 240mph is about all you can do - we may see
a few 240+ laps one day (I didn't try anything but Honda/Reynard) and
even with lowest 3.0/3.0 wings you still stick in the turns with minor
chassis adjustment - but top speed is just not getting much better, so
breaking alod ICR1 records won't be easy. 120%? who cares? What matters
is to get the 100% figure for race and qual about right for a pretty
good player. Michigan is pretty good, and so is Milwaukee, although there
the cars in qual are a bit too slow, while they blow me off in the race
at
98%. As long as one can get challenging quyalifying for one's skill
level and at the same level a good race, the numbers are fine - even
if they are 20mph above reality. Michigan is well done. Milwaukee
needs some fine tuning of the RELS and BLAP values once we know
more about the game.

rumor is: papyrus was just bought by Sierra Online...
