Say Hey Gearheads,
My Banshee will drops textures also, usually blocks of road , other times
banner apperaring lines at the horizon. Try not using wallpaper in Windows
,that tip fixed SERIOUS texture problems that plagued me before.

The problem with the Banshee and GPL is heat.  GPL works it harder than any
other game available and the stock heatsink is inadequate.  This situation
"may" improve with newer drivers, but don't count on it.  I removed 80% of the
texture errors by simply mounting a 486 CPU fan on the Banshee's heatsink.
Prior to doing this GPL would become unplayable as the textures got worse over
time.  With the fan installed only a few texture errors remained but more
importantly, they no longer got worse with time.  Tonight I took the next step
and swapped the Banshee heatsink for the larger heatsink that came with the 486
CPU fan.  This modification has removed 99.9% of the texture errors as I
observed only a single error (groove texture at the Ring).  Aside from that, I
was finally able to enjoy Rouen and Monaco in all their 1024x768, 36fps glory
with no texture errors whatsoever.
I suspect that few users will take the step to install a fan (although it
is a MUST in my opinion) and far fewer users will feel comfortable enough to
swap out the original heat sink, but those who do it successfully will be just
as pleased as I am  =)

ps
Setting the wallpaper to "none" made no difference whatsoever for me.

Great info, thanks.

I too have a Banshee card that I'm generally very satisfied with, but I get
occasional misbehavior in the form of what I call
"candy-stripping"...trackside objects covered in vertical stripes. Is this a
problem you've seen?

Can you provide more detail on the fans that you've used...good sources,
prices, recommended manufacturers/models, how-to-install, related web sites?

Thanks!
