difference it has made. GPL used to crash randomly (not real often, but
annoyingly), hang when switching players, and I couldn't run OC (300A) on
line or it would crash.
I had noticed the furnace fan cutting in was coincidental with some of the
crashes, so I decided to get a line conditioner from some advice from the
news group.
I didn't expect the general improvement in GPL, and it even seems to have
cured some annoying Windows glitches I've been getting. I don't think my
power is much dirtier than the average. I'm not sure if it was EMI on the
lines, or voltage fluctuations, but the line conditioner (not just a surge
suppressor) has really helped.
I can now run GPL at 374 (gotta get that 100 MHz FSB MB!) on-line, without a
glitch, and I haven't had GPL hang for 2 days, through a lot of usage.
Not cheap ($140 Canadian), but it seems to have been well worth it.
So far GPL has only cost me about $1500. I wonder if they just gave away the
software, and then got kick-backs from the hardware suppliers....
