ESPN ran the race on Sunday.  They'll probably rebroadcast a couple
time on ESPN2.  (if you get that channel)

He certainly thought that if he got his lap back he'd be going for the

However, Ernie had not crashed when Jeff was racing really hard to get
by Rusty.  Until Irvan's wreck, all Jeff had to race for was finishing
4th on the lead lap as opposed to finishing 4th a lap down.  That's
what bothers me.  Irvan's wreck and ensuing caution just gave him an
excuse for racing Rusty that hard.  But that was after the fact.

It was on ESPN. If you have ESPN-2, there's usually a rebroadcast later in
the week. The Primestar 500 at Atlanta will be on ABC. They've got NASCAR
events scattered across all the networks now. I'm pretty sure the
www.nascar.com site has a television schedule.

ESPN also showed it earlier this morning. I wish they would show older
racing stuff instead of some of the garbage that is on ESPN and the
duece. I mean there are probably 3 people who watch the world strongman
contest and pool.

I've got to agree on this one Kyle.  I'm a Gordon fan, as well as a
Wallace fan.  But, I don't think what JG pulled those last few laps
were professional _at all_.  I was happy to hear Rusty slam him
on it in the post race interview.

I thought he a little out of control, especially when he started rubbin'
fenders with Jarrett on the next to the last restart with about 20(?) to
go. However, he was faster than both Jarrett and Wallace at that point, and
if he had been able to keep his lap, he could've picked up fresh tires,
started 4th behind Bodine, and maybe even had a shot at the win.

So, I can't fault him for trying to make up his lap, but I do think he was
driving much too hard for being a lap down that far into the race. It's
pretty fortunate that he didn't take Jarrett out.

Has anything come out on Wallace's engine yet? I know they confiscated it
after the race, but I haven't heard the outcome.

Jarrett, in essence, took himself out. Why did he have that lousey
restart? Wallace drove right by him. After the race the announcers said
they'd be right back after the commercial to speak with Jarrett. Instead
they talked to a lapper(J.Gordon) and I didn't hear Gordon thank God for
putting him a lap down.
Wallaces engine failed a compression test twice after the race. However,
the next day is was OK'd. Go figure.

Actually, if Godon would not have slowed (due to the wreck), he would
have raced back to the line to remain on the lead lap.  The yellow
flag would have bunched him in with the rest of the leaders.  He would
then be right behing the leaders.  Maybe he would have finished better
than 4th, maybe not. But it would have made a big difference on the
restart.  (4th and a lap down, or 4th right behind the leaders)

And if you're lucky the local affiliates of ABC and CBS won't pre-emt the race with a local
game like ABC did with the indy cars last Sunday (They showed a local basketball game instaed)
and CBS did with the Tally re-broadcast last year (It was never shown at all here in Cincinnati)
Sorry, but I'd be happy if Nascar only let Espn, Espn2, and TNN carry the races. I know that's
not fair to those of you who can't get cable but it's just how I feel.

Sounds like Rusty was playing in the gray area.

With the popularity of Nascar Racing growing the "high and mighty"
didn't want to turn off all the new fans by telling them the teams
resort to "Cheating" to win.

But I could be wrong.

I didn't think there were any compression restrictions, except at the
restrictor plate tracks.  Did I miss something?  I sit new for '97?
