Well, I wouldn't buy a Corvette in England so I really don't care how
much it costs ;-)

Yes the Cerbera is a nice car and is quite fast. So is the ZO6. How about
405 HP (346ci/5665cc V8, 2 valves/cylinder, naturally aspirated,) 0-60 in

and .99g lateral acceleration? All this for $50,420. This data is from
the February 2002 issue of Motor Trend magazine. The Cerbera might be
slightly faster -- I don't know -- but I doubt that it would "trounce"
the ZO6.

Aye, I've seen those figures. They are indeed impressive.

Very impressive. As I said, a bit faster but hardly a trouncing :-)

Just out of curiosity, how much does the Cerbera cost in the UK?

46,000 or thereabouts.  That's around $65,000

Do you have any links to any independent test results?  Manufacturer's
figures are often overstated.

Hmm...with the $15,000 left over after buying the ZO6, I could make it
MUCH faster than the TVR ;-)

I don't even know how I got into this -- I love Euro cars. If I
personally had to decide between a ZO6 and a Cerbera, it would be a very
difficult choice.

Don't forget that Corvette has to pass US crash tests and emissions (adds
weight), not sure if the UK requires the same tests or not...

Oh, crap! I forgot that one. I know it's been in a console rally
game as a bonus or secret car but that was years ago. That's
definately a car I've lusted after for many a year. :)

Enter the zcars Tiger Z100WR:

Capacity(CC): 2400
Max Power:    360 HP
Max Torque:   198 lbft

0 to 60 mph:  2.8 sec, street legal tires
0 to 100 mph: 6.3 sec, still street legal
Est. price: UKP 40.000
http://www.zcars.org.uk/

So, it's a bit more basic and unorthodox than the Vette and TVR.

Not when it comes to GM and their LS1-based cars...

People dyno their fresh-from-the-dealer Camaros and Firebirds all the time.
The horsepower ratings you see on a manufacturer's sheet are quoted at the
flywheel, with no driveline losses figured in...

It's not terribly uncommon to see a Camaro dyno within 5-10hp of its
"flywheel" horsepower (anywhere from 305 to 325 depending on trim) - at the
rear wheels.

So when GM says the LS6 in the ZO6 puts out 405hp...I believe 'em.  I've
seen 'em run, and they are FAST!  Probably the best daily driver you could
have in a SCCA Solo II slalom; anything faster is probably a Lotus Seven. ;)

And if I had another $15,000 to spend on a ZO6...hmm, depending on how much
work I do myself, I could -possibly- up it to the 427LS6 block GM has.  The
block alone is $4000...but it's another 150hp and god only knows how much
more torque, no problem.

If you REALLY want to get insane...let me point you to the Lingenfelter
427TT Corvette.  Start with your "average" ZO6, add GMPP 427 block and
crank, and a pair of turbochargers...leave in a gigantic plume of tiresmoke
as you attempt to put 725HP and 650 lb/ft of torque down on the pavement
through the rear wheels. It'll only cost you another ZO6, basically. =)

I say add to this the early years of Trans-Am - just like the early years of
NASCAR, these cars were more or less stock...near the end of the early
years, though, you got your cars with all of the fun hotrod factory parts,
which, because of the rules, you most certainly could get on your car at the
dealer, if you knew what to order. ;)

I want to see both first and (early) second generation Camaros in a sim,
along with Mustangs, Javelins, and their other bretheren...

Aw,***it, I want a 1969 Trans-Am Sim!!!!!!!!

A man after my own heart :)
Luckily a lot of us Aussie's see things as you do and we have our own
hot V8's. Did you know that at one time the fastest sedan in the world
(straight from the factory) was an Australian car? It was the Ford GT
HO Phase III.
There's a little info here...
http://www.fordmuscleparts.com.au/

We've also got the new 350 Chev powered Monaro from Holden. The Monaro
goes way back and finished production in the mid 70's. Now Holden has
brought it back. I have an old one myself, a 74.
Pics are here if your interested.

You can see a variety of Monaro's here...
http://monaroclubvic.alphalink.com.au/

The latest Monaro..
http://www.holden.com.au/app/serve?page=monaroEntry

And the HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) version.
The GTS is the one we'd all like :)

Check out their ute while your there :)

Man I wish GM would start importing Holdens to the US. I would trade my
300M for an HSV in a heartbeat! There was talk of this happening a year
or so ago, but I guess it never played out...

I heard talk of it long ago and still hear rumors today.
I really can't understand why they don't. I'm sure the market would be
big in the States. The beancounters at GM probably have something to
do with it.
The current Commodore, which the Monaro and HSV's are based on, is
made with a dash as to make them either right or left hand drive very
easily. Apparently the HSV's are pretty popular in the middle east.
I also saw in a magazine recently that the HSV Maloo will be exported
to the UK.
Btw, HSV are trying to get their hands on about 300 Corvettes. I don't
know too much about Corvettes so what particular model it would be I
don't know. It's sure to be something hot though and way out of my
price range.
