Icr2 and WinXP...

Anybody has run it successfully under WinXP?   I can load it, it can run but
it has no sound.  After searching a little it seems to be a real issue, with
the gameport not recognising any controller.  Tried all compatibility modes.
Soundcard is a SB Live Value.

Are you maybe running a "cracked" or copied version of the game, or maybe
the no-CD software?  That could be the main problem, but there have been
lots of problems regarding too high a setting on the hardware acceleration
with the SB Live sound card, too.  Try backing the settings down a little
(left) and make sure you're running the latest video card drivers, too.  If
Windows XP isn't recognizing the controller, uninstall it, reboot and attach
it.  See if XP will pick it up automatically, without installing software
for it.  Also, make sure once it is recognized that it is listed as your #1
controller.  Remember to check the game developer's web site for possible
updates.

Err no lol.  Icr2 didn't need a CD, and it had originally a kick-ass box by
Electronic Arts :)

From what I see on the web, the only way would be to have a book disk to DOS
with the SB live emulator dos drivers.

There is an option under XP to setup a different 'compatability mode'.  Set
it the exe.'s properties to 'Windows 95' and see if that help.

Beside what James said, check out Help and Support for the subject "Create
or change a PIF."  There's also a short overview file on "Using PIF files."
Both relate directly to getting DOS programs to run in Windows XP, and may
lead you into a clue on the sound.  Otherwise, check with Creative Labs to
see if they've come up with a solution (doubtful).  I seem to recall
something along those lines, but can't put my finger on it right now.

If you absolutely must run the dos ICR2, then you will have to have your
soundcard on either irq 7 or 5.  The soundblaster settings were 5,3,1 or
7,3,1(irq, dma, I forget)  Even then, I'm not sure it will work.  Good luck.
