Hi all !

I manange a sub 8:10 ( 8:08.38 ) at the Ring ... cool ! But my goal is
sub 8:00.. and i really need to practice some turns .

I read sometimes that there was an utility to place the car wherever you
want on track at practice's start but i can't find it at the us pits. Do
you know where to find it ?

Another question : the spring of my MS FF Wheel accel's pedal broke , i
put a squash ball to replace it , do you know a better solution ? The
spring is so odd that i can't find it in any store :o(

Tks in advance

regards,

It's called the Ringtrainer. You can get it here:

Hi!

This is the old (German) version of Ringtrainer. Get the new (English) one
here:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
I think, I've got to drop a mail to the webmaster of that above site ;)).

The same thing happened to my Thrustmaster T2.  Turns out, Thrustmaster
sells replacements via their website.  You might check to see if MS does
the same.  Maybe if you're super lucky, the TM spring might even fit.
Of course, TM wants $13.50 for the damn thing, which is probably worth
about 3 cents....

Thrustmaster _used_ to give them away because they broke so often.

Hey, they have reinvented the razor blade!

Give away the wheel cheap, sell the springs for $13.50!

It will be very interesting to see how you get this spring out of MS.
[insert your favorite joke line here, including the words "Bill", "Tight"
and "Ass"]

I can hear it now.  "Please box up your entire wheel and pedals, and ship to
us with a check enclosed for the $90 flat-repair fee".

I sure hope not :)  I have TWO of them!

When I had problems with a (nearly new) ActLAb ForceRS I was expecting
this response (well - as it should have been under warranty I was only
anticipating having to pay to send it) so I was quite surprised and
delighted to get a prompt email response to a request to tech support
which basically said that if I was willing I should take the wheel apart
and let them know what parts I needed to fix it ... turned out to be a
bad solder joint on one of the pot contacts so I fixed it fairly
quickly.

om...
they broke so often.
this spring out of MS.
the words "Bill", "Tight"
wheel and pedals, and ship to

When the throttle spring broke on my M$FF about 2
months
back, I rang micro$oft and after a lot of shouting
and asking to
talk to managers etc., they sent me a brand new
set of pedals.
Didn't even ask for my old set back and the wheel
was 13 months
old then, still got the old pedals so I've got a
spare spring when it
breaks again.

Phone them up, if they don't co-operate SHOUT, and
don't take no
for an answer.

You did that WITHOUT ever using RingTrainer?  Wow...  How'd you do it - just
tons of practice?

1)The most important ,i think, is to drive safe, no crash, to learn the track,
then slowly increase speed in each turns .

2)I'm playing the game since the demo at least 1 hour per week,  so i've lot of
practice too.

3)G-Huttu setups help a lot ( with a more human brake ratio :o) ).

4)I've downloaded lots of replays from different top drivers ,  i use GPLDump to
compare their replays to mine.

5)Hm... what else... lots of patience and some Quake Arena to un-stress ;o)

If Microsoft still don't give you a new set of pedals (warranty expired etc)
you can take the broken spring or the working one to a spring manufacturer
for duplication. Costs a pretty penny though.

I've turned a lot of laps.  I couldn't say how many, but...

I discovered that I couldn't drive Huttu's setups, so I stopped trying them...

I've done that, but with ReplayAnalyzer and SpyGirl.  The problem is, I only
see that I'm slower EVERYWHERE.   That doesn't seem to help me, or I just don't
know what to look for/at.  Is GPLDump better?

Quake stopped working on my system...and I was never very good at it anyway...
:(

ReplayAnalyzer and SpyGirl.  The problem is, I only

When I use RA, I often compare myself against fast guys (Huttu for example)
but not in terms of speed, just in terms of line. I let the replay run
through, ignoring the fact that they are way ahead, then zoom in and scroll
around by hand looking for places where their line differs significantly
from mine. Then I try to work on that particular segment of the track and
see if my times improve. This doesn't always help because those guys have
different driving styles and more control, but often it helps me find the
fast way around.

I did this a lot with the Papy replays in the past, and still am at Kyalami,
trying to get that last elusive 2 tenths (starting to HATE Kyalami BTW).

I also run the fast guy's replay to get an idea of braking points and gear
choice, then go to the track while the memory is fresh to see if that helps.
Obviously I temper that with the fact that if I brake anything less than 2
seconds earlier than GH on any given corner I will probably eat Armco <g>

> >3)G-Huttu setups help a lot ( with a more human brake ratio :o) ).

Well, the first time i try them there were very stable, but he change lots of
things in all his setups, and now the car is very over-steering when rear tire are
cold, and still quit over-steering when the tire are hot. But IMO with these new
settings the slides are easyly to control. And this is very good for me because i
use to drive sports cars ( propulsion ) like this : Turn the front with the hands ,
the rear with the foots :o) Anyway, his brakes ratios are very too on the rear for
me . And it is absurdity to me that you need to apply gas when breaking to avoid
the rear to lock !
In summary, i use G.Huttu setups with brake ratios more to the front.

If Mr. G.Huttu is reading this maybe he could explain me how he tune his setups to
have this wonderful slide control and front grip ?

Well, sometimes you are not fast enough because you don't know that the car can go
faster on some turns.... But if you reach your limit before the car limit the
Replays analyser can't helps you ... Maybe what you need is to see a good driver
playing GPL in Live.
In the begining i use too see the replays of top drivers in***pit view WITH the
steering wheel... too bad there is no pedals view :o)

BTW, i've an idea for MR G.Huttu : what about a GPL driving school ? I mean a real
one , where Mr. G.Huttu will teach us how too drive faster ? :o))))
