I ran Vista Ultimate for a month or so and didn't have any major
problems on the system I built with Vista in mind. I did have a lot of
little "glitches" that, over time, made me go back to XP Pro for the
time being. One of my issues is the way Vista handles (or tries to) NV
SLI technology. I run two 8800 GTX cards and SLI would just turn off at
any time Vista wanted it to. I tried every NV Vista driver out there and
there are many. This may be due to the partial implementation of the DX
10 runtimes that are in Vista now and may be fixed when the entire DX 10
suite is released. I didn't have any problems with my onboard Dolby
sound at all. Some of my A/V programs had updates for Vista
compatibility, but a few options were not available anymore due to some
of the security "improvements". I think Vista will be fine after the
first SP and the full DX 10 release for folks with the hardware needed
to run it well. I remember the change from Windows 3.1 to 95 to 98/ME
and then to 2000/XP and like any change it will take some time to iron
out some issues.
