ICR2 at PII

Hi!

I tried to install my old Indycar Racing II on to my PII350. But I was
unsuccessful... :((
There were two problems:
1) SVGA mode just gives a black screen (the game, and sound, is running, but
the screen is black). VGA works, but that looks incredibly awful! ;)
2) The game doen't seem to recognize my steering wheel. I think this may be
a problem with me using the PDPI L4 card. I have not tried to move the
steering wheel to my old joyport.

Anyone know how to fix these problems? Is there perhaps a patch that allows
ICR2 to be run from an MS-DOS screen in Windows (like GP2)? Anyone?

Please, please, pleeeeeeeaaaaase help me if you can! I would really like to
know if my GPL expierience has changed the way I feel about the ICR2
physics! :)

BTW: I would KILL to get 'Indycar Racing III', based on the GPL physics
engine (of course tweaked towards loads more grip, and 800+ bhp), and I have
a feeling others would too...
(Papy/Sierra, take note!)

Ciaoooooooo! ;)

Read the documentation on getting VESA modes to work on your video card.  You
make need to download DOS VESA drivers from the manufacturers site.  Maybe try
it under a DOS box in Win9x.

That is correct, the PDPI-L4 will not work for DOS games.

I just ran ICRII from a MSDOS box in Win98 yesterday (trying Portland out :).
It worked fine.  I have a Mystique G200 and SB AWE64 sound card.

Yes.  GPL has changed the way you thought about ICR2 (for the worst).
Even SCGT feels better than ICR2 right now.

Agreed.

What kinda video card are you using? And are you using the WIN95 version of
ICR2?

I'm assuming you added the "-h" to the end of the commandline
for the shortcut?  If so - I have no clue; if not then try it.

Not exactly. The PDPI-L4 works fine for DOS games. All you have to do is
move the little switch on the back of the card from digital to analog. I use
it all the time in ICR2, Rally Championship, GP2. Both Rally and GP2 will
run in a DOS box in Win98 but I have to reboot to DOS to run the Rendition
version of ICR2.

Well rest assured that you problem is *definately* not your P2. I have a
P2-450 and run ICR2 in a W98 DOS box and it runs fine in SVGA.

Try running UVCONFIG.EXE.

But how can you run it in a DOS box? Windows just tells me that the computer
will be rstarted in DOS mode if I want to continue, when I try that. Do you
use the Win95 version perhaps?

Okay, Thanx! :)

Nope. You go to the DOS executable shortcut and right mouse click
and go to properties. Select the advanced button on the PROGRAM
tab and make sure the only box checked is "Prevent MS-DOS-based
programs from detecting Windows". I am even using my Logitech
Formula Force USB wheel with the game.
