Sony's FIA Formula One Monopoly - sigh

Now that Sony has a monopoly on FIA Formula One games this is what we have
to look forward to. <sigh> What a pity.
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

To think F1 racing used to get me e***d. In fact I got Electronic Arts' F1
2002 and got so e***d about Grand Prix Racing again that I got DirectTV so
I could watch the real thing on the Speed Channel. When the 2003 season
ended I couldn't wait for the 2004 season to start. I hadn't been that
e***d about Grand Prix racing since the 1960's and then with Papyrus'
Grand Prix Legends. After seeing Sony's offering though I can't see too many
people getting e***d about FIA Formula One by playing the console game. I
think the FIA made a huge mistake letting Sony have sole licensing for their
games in the upcoming years. Their latest offering looks like a cartoon.
Also, why is it the 2003 season and not 2004? <sigh>

From their feature list ...

"Win races to unlock bonus features"

I think that says it all :-)

Actually, it wouldn't be that bad if they did it properly.

I.e. you have to start in a Minardi, and the better you finish, the more
money the team gets for development, so the car gets quicker, and the more
offers you get from better teams.

Unfortunately it probably means that you get 'turbo boost' or the ability to
drop an oil slick! :-(

I think a well done career mode in any of the sims can indeed be an
entertaining aspect to sim to many. But ... It has to be an option, as there
are at just as many who hate this sort of thing, and simply want to jump in
teh best car and see how they go up against the best of teh AI or otehr sim
racers. But as you say ... Done well it does have its appeal and supporters.

to
drop an oil slick! :-(

Again - I think you're probably right here :-)

Looks like a good ARCADE game, if someone wants to waste the money,
cause it surely aint a sim.

I really hate racing games on the consoles.  The resolution is far, far
too low to do justice to racing.  I can't even tell most of the time playing
Gran Turismo 3 if the turn ahead is left or right, it's so jaggy.
