Im a happy boy now !!!!!

This might not mean much to a lot of people out there but I went under 108
for the first time today and that means a hell of a lot to me. For the last
week I have been stuck on 108.00 , 108 flat how cruel is that it might as
well have been 108.99.
So now Im in the race 107.87 is only a second off the fast pace and since I
am on a p133 with a p2 just around the corner I am content now in the
knowledge that I can drive this car to the max.
One thing I have noticed is that I can do constant laps in the mid 108 with
out a problem but in order to go faster than my best I have to constantly
crash.
Well Im ready to race something other than myself, so bring it on Papyrus!

I did the exactly the same time too yesterday. I'm very happy too.
I have a p200MMX with Rendition Verite v1000, but if I'd only get a voodoo2
to it I'd be some 4 tenths faster.

I bet you 2 both have wheels too.
Poor people like me who only have Keyboards and shite joysticks can only
dream of laps like that.

Well actually I have driven my fastest laps with a joystick and my
pedals. The Joystick is much faster for correcting slides.

So if you got yourself a pair of pedals, then you could be flying :)

btw: my joystick is just a piece of sh#t $15 thing, nothing fancy :)
my pedals (and wheel) is a Trustmaster Formula 1 Pro.

Cant wait go get my hands on the Nordschleife :))))

cheers

I sure do, made it myself out of a wooden box, a hub from the front wheel
of a bicycle the wheel is a pulley from the bottom of a twin tub washing
machine and I use mouse traps as springs for peddle returns. The wiring and
buttons came from an old broken joystick, so all up it cost me nothing.
Do yourself a favour build one .

And I have a Thrustmaster Formula 1 Racing Wheel.
I had a spring broken on the gas pedal and it took 2 weeks to the importer
to break a new one and send a spring to me. I would have lasted forever to
ask one from Thrustmaster.
Have you custom-built wheel owners any broblems?
In that two weeks I drove both with keyboard and joystick and got awful
times with them. EVERYONE SHOULD BUY A WHEEL.

>Are you serious?

You bet Im serious. How many joysticks and wheels have people been through.
Due to the strains placed on them, even the most expensive ones are going to
break quite often if you use them enough, so you are going to have to learn
to repair them when they break anyway. Once you get inside them you see that
there is very little involved in making your own, which you can build a
robust as possible so that you wont have the problems of a commercial wheel.

I can go 2 seconds faster with my stick than with a wheel at the Glen in
Nascar2, and about 3 seconds faster with the stick at the Glen in GPL.

The wheel may not be for everybody.

That's okay, if your only interest is the fastest lap time. I prefer to
get the most complete experience of driving a car on my PC, so I
wouldn't
fly a plane with the mouse, nor would I drive a car with a joystick.

That's a good point... I don't always feel "immersed" in driving sims
using a joystick, but I haven't found a wheel setup yet that's
comfortable for me.

I have been experimenting with a TM GP1/CH pedal combination at the
office lately, and I've been pretty happy with the results...

Quite a few of the follow up posts to this one say that the joystick is
quicker, but not as 'real', therefore fun.
I agree here.

I've just got myself a F1 Sim Compact wheel, and after about 30 laps, I'm 3
secs off my best joystick times (a bit more practice will fix that).
What I find is that I like the pedals a lot more with GPL, instead of
controlling the throttle and brake with the joystick. It's just that the
steering is not responsive enough at times.
Just another point, GPL with a steering wheel is (initially) harder having
started with a joystick, but F1RS is easier. Strange.

Anyway, I'll still be sticking to a wheel.

I have to agree too... I use a wheel at work and a stick at home, and
the wheel is definitely a more immersive experience.

I'd never want to control throttle and brake with the stick... i've
tried that exactly once, and it felt horrible. My setup at home is a
Thrustmaster F22 Pro stick which I use for steering (and shifting on one
of the hats) and a Thrustmaster TQS throttle for throttle and brake.

I'm much happier with the CH pedals at work tho... they allow for
throttle and brake on independent axes, a BIG plus in my opinion.

After TM T1, T2, CH Virtual Pro/CH Pedals I finally arrived at the same
combo you mention... ;^)

Just the wheel paddels for F1 style shifting are what made me like it
most.
