ICR - Painted Cars

by e.. » Wed, 15 Jun 1994 07:46:57

        So is anyone out there playing with the paintkit for Indycar,
besides making up cool looking cars for themselves to drive. I was wondering
if anyone had painted up any of this years cars. I myself am in the process
of painting up Mauricio Gugelmin's Hollywood car. I'm painting the car from
memory after watching the race at Detroit. It doesn't look bad if I say so
myself.
        I've also modified the numbers on the cars that are the same as
last years except for the numbers. I've touched up the Newman-Haas cars so
they look right as well as Bobby Rahal's car. I also done the Budweiser cars.
There are still a few mistakes in these like I have Nigel's sidepod reading
Texaco instead of Havoline and Bobby's Tail Wing reads Miller instead of
Genuine Draft.

        If not, does anyone know where I can get pictures of the cars so
that I don't have to memorize the car while it flies by during a race.
It's pretty hard to remember the looks of more then one car after the
race.

Thanks.

Great idea!  If everyone posts here what cars they are working on and
posts the results when they're done we can get the whole field
updated.  I'll be glad to help once I get around to buying the
Indianapolis add-on!

Go to your newstand and check On Track, Autoweek and Racer magazines.
On Track has lots of IndyCar pictures althought they're usually black
and white.  Not sure about Autoweek.  Racer has nice full color features
but they tend to focus on a few cars or drivers from various series
each month.  I think there is also a magazine dedicated to IndyCar
racing but I don't know where you would find it or whether it's any
good.

I just uploaded a complet cars94 file from Ralf Southard, who
has been messing with the paintkit for over 2 weeks to get
this  accomplished: here's his info:

available on didnt.doit.wisc.edu, under the updates directory

CARS94.ZIP contains the following files:

        CARS94.DAT      IndyCar Racing Car Data file with '94 cars
        DRIVERS.TXT     IndyCar Racing Driver data with through
                        Detroit Grand Prix
        CARS94.TXT      The text below

Here it is, the most accurate IndyCar Racing Opponent file
to date.  Brought to you by One Two Many Productions, Ralf
SOuthard spent many painstaking hours to provide the most
accurate representations of many of your favorite PPG
drivers' cars.

With only 33 opponents available in IndyCar Racing, some
drivers were omitted.  If there is a demand for additional
drivers of any particular popularity, they can be uploaded
as PCX files and later inserted into the game.  You must
have version 1.05 to do this though.

You DON't need 1.05 to enjoy THIS car set, however.  In
this set, you will find the following drivers (and their
cars):

ICRS (0);
Michael Andretti (8);
Paul Tracy (3);
Mario Andretti (6);
Emerson Fittipaldi (2);
Mark Smith (15);
Nigel Mansell (1);
Robbie Gordon (9);
Bobby Rahal (4);
Mike Groff (10);
Al Unser, Jr. (31);
Scott Sharp (71);
Dominic Dobson (17);
Mauricio Gugelmin (88);
Raul Boesel (5);
Stefan Johansson (16);
Adrian Fernandez (7);
Buddy Lazier (23);
Eddie Cheever (27);
Bryan Herta (14);
Teo Fabi (11);
Scott Goodyear (40);
Jacques Villeneuve (12);
Marco Greco (25);
Hiro Matsushita (22);
Willy T. Ribbs (24);
Roberto Guerrero (21);
Brian Till (19);
Scott Brayton (59);
Arie Luyendyk (28);
Scott Pruett (87);
Jimmy Vasser (18);
John Andretti (33)

All drivers that have clearly defined sponsorship will
have their logos properly portrayed on their car.  No
more Xmas and Penske cars... we got Kmart and Marlboro
cars here!

The DRIVERS.TXT file included with this CARS94.DAT file
includes updated information as to chassis/engine combos
and power based on 1994 performance through the Detroit
Grand Prix.

To use this new set of cars and drivers without affecting
your original set, follow these instructions:

1.  Go to your INDYCAR directory.

    There you will find the following subdirectories:

       \CARS
       \EFFECTS
       \INSTALL
       \TRACKS

2.  Go to your \CARS subdirectory.

    There you will find the following subdirectory:

       \CARS93

3.  Create the subdirectory CARS94.  You may do this by
typing the following at the DOS prommpt:

       md CARS94

4.  Now copy the CARS94.DAT and DRIVERS.TXT files into
this directory.

That is all!  When you launch IndyCar Racing, you may select
OPTIONS from your opening menu and then select CAR SETS from
the next menu.  After this, you should see at least two
selections, CARS93 and CARS94.  Select CARS94, and you're
all set to go with today's racers.

Good luck, and please send a comment.  I'm constantly
trying to keep this set up-to-date.  Creating THIS set
was the most time consuming.  You may reach me here at
aol at SABATA.

If you are interesting in joining out online racing
league, check out our folder in the Grandstand Racing
boards (keyword: GRANDSTAND - Location: "In The Pits")

Happy Racing!

Howdy all!!

Listen, how can I get a copy of the paintkit for ICR that is currently the
talk of this newsgroup? Is it on an FTP site, or do I have to go cap in
hand to someone who has it?

Thanx in advance,

Cameron Ing

well, you'll have to purchase the Indianapolis expansion pack -
the pack includes Indy, the track, and the Paintkit, as well as
the verion 1.05, which allows the use of it.

US$ 22 is the best I've seen it at. I paid US $32 - too much.

Just get the cars94 file from my site and use it, because
Ralf Southard did a brilliant job in painting these cars! He
also adjusted driver performance to the 1994 levels in the
drivers.txt file.

ftp to

didnt.doit.wisc.edu

and check out the /ICR/updates/Cars94 directory

(the paint program is ***- all that's good about it is the
export to PCX feature. Then paint in a decent program and re-import)

later

I would suggest "IndyCar" magazine.  It usually has a lot of good pictures of the
cars.

I have been playing with it too, but I do not have access to all of
the current cars' pictures, also I don't have the time, but

drivers current with the current season --  very good job.  Email
him, or if you have a BBS number I can post to I would be happy to
upload them to that BBS for you.

I use Fractal Design Painter or Adobe Photoshop on my Macintosh.

In Windows, I'd use Publisher's Paintbrush. No idea about cheap/free
software that is "decent".

What do you use for "a decent program"? I've tried Windows Paintshop
but Paintkit says its not compatible. Thanks for any advice.

I use Deluxe Paint II Enhanced, it works great!  Only problem is that
if you don't already own it, then you can't get it because Electronic
Arts doesn't produce it anymore.
