V5 problems...

[snip]

I don't know - the 3D engine in GPL is far from optimal - it didn't
have z-buffer support until the D3D patch.  It would be interesting to
see how all these numbers compare to an 8mb Rendition V2200 card (which
was Papyrus' 'preferred' card at the time).  That the V5 in raw Glide
doesn't run faster than a V3 is not terribly shocking.

Stupid me forgot the numbers (along with my pager!) this morning.  My
basic testing under *my* settings (which in the final analysis is what
I care about) show D3D to be as fast/faster than Glide.  My detail
slider is at 45-50%, and I have 3d wheels on the Lotus and Ferrari
(possibly that makes the dif right there).  I also limited the mirror
textures to cars, tires, wall, racing groove, and drivers.
On the back of the Monaco grid I get the following (from memory):
D3D:
800x600 2xFSAA 34fps start, 29fps min as cars roll, 36fps cars 1st crnr
1024x768 2x - 30, 26, 36
1024x768 fastest - 30, 26, 36
Note no fps hit for 2xFSAA - I race at 800x600 2x (I hate a big FPS
drop in traffic).
Glide - I dont remember the exact numbers, but they were essentially
the same as D3D at 1024x768.  Single chip made no real difference, at
most 1fps as the cars moved off.

So, as Mark Twain once said, there's lies, damn lies, and
statistics ;)...

I'll try to work up some numbers for your settings, but now that my
wheel's hooked up its hard not to pop into RC2000 :)...
