Is this the "World Circuit" game?

And if it is, why the name change here?

TIA

Yes.

I'd suspect a licensing issue. Joker, can you find out?

You'll probably find it was a marketing decision. Most Americans probably
wouldn't have known what "F1" was. The word "World" seems to get Americans
to take a second look.

Yep, it is! It was released in USA under a different name. I haven't got
a clue why. UFO : Enemy Unknown (also from Microprose) was released in
Europe, and then renamed to X-COM in the States.

Actually it was "copyright" decision.  There was already a game
available in the States with a similar name to F1 Grand Prix.  In order
to not violate copyright laws and confuse the buying public, it was
released under the name "World Circuit".

Question on F1GP

by GEOFF STA » Fri, 24 May 1996 04:00:00

I believe that F1GP changed it's name to World Circuit because of
copyright problems.  F1 is (I believe) a trademark of (FISA - or
whatever the name of the controlling organization is)
