Okie... just a thought :)

But... those who use dial-up should unplug their cordless phones regardless
during online play/surfin...

Cheers,

Shumi

Richard, you really should not generalise when you make statements such as
"the entire backbone....is fibre-optic".  You may be correct insofar as the
USA is concerned, but NOT the rest of the world.

This is quite interesting--I've never heard it before.  Can someone expand
upon it?  How does a cordless phone, turned off and resting in its cradle,
contribute to line noise?  I'm interested, because I've got a cordless
sitting not two feet from my PC.

best,

David K.

: (1) Satellite transmission IS used, yes, but not universely and not for all
: forms of telephonic transmission.
: (2) All electro-magnetic transmissions are affected by solar radiation.
: Whether the transfer of data via fibre-optics falls into this category I
: don't know.

***bruce - optical transmission (using light - to take you back to
basic physics light is an electro-magnetic wave) is not effected by
electric or magnetic currents.

I stand by my statement that satellite transmission is not used for
internet stuff in the US or EU unless you're talking about mobile phone
type calls.

I can't comment on the intricate details of the phenomenon since I myself am
not overly familiar with cordless phones and their inner workings. But I was
told once by my old dial-up ISP that my disconnections could be caused by
the cordless phone due to line noise it generates even when turned off on
the hook.

I asked my telephone company if this is the case (line noise)... and they
confirmed.

I suspect it has to do with the transmission of radio frequencies from the
headset and the receiver, but I'm not entirely sure the protocol for such
activity when turned off.

Either way... logic tells me that you have an antenna designed to pick up
frequencies plugged into your phone line. It is sure to pick up "noise"
along the way.

All I know, is that when I was on dial-up before, and I unplugged my
cordless.... my disconnection rate dropped substantially.

Cheers,

Shumi

Aliens.... pure and simple.
Part of the systematic attack on our planet.
First THEY make it hard to play online racing sims.. then they rule the
world. Nixon knew about the connection... Domino theory... Clinton is in on
it... but that McCain guy will kick those alien bastards out of here... or
was that Buchanan?
Later,
