Anybody remember the Renault LeCar?  I got a chance to see a race full of 'em.
It was a support race at the 1984 Detroit Gran Prix.  Funniest thing you ever
want to see....LeCar's - RACING?!?  :)

Yeah I was there actaully trying to my owner driver of the Formula Atlantic
to pick up the pace a bit so he would qualify. The Renault Cup and
Volkswagen Cup series were very close competitive racing that brought us
racers like the Archer Brothers.  That and you would usually someone really
wadd a car up in those races since passing was very much a forced affair.
I remember seeing a Volkswagen Cup race at Laguna Seca, before they changed
the track that someone was trying to make a pass in what was called turn
two.  well when the pass was finished several cars were on their tops and
most cars had been banged up a bit.  Even tho it was slow cars racing it
was great to watch.

SCCA and SIM racing

Make that 40 screaming Miata's and you have a deal. :)
Motorsims, please, please do a great job on these titles.  I have been
hoping for SCCA sims since hearing about SportsCarGT and TransAmRacing, and
it looks like you guys got all the licensing.  I would love to see SCCA SOLO
and SOLO II titles released.  Of course these would come with Neons and
Miatas.  Folks may not respect these cars, but they make a driver out of
you.  When you only have 140hp, you can't afford to lose speed by getting
sloppy in the corners.  Smooth and precise driving is required to be fast in
these cars.  A year spent competing in a Miata would make a driver from any
other class faster because they will no longer use horsepower to compensate
for lack of ability.  I think most sim racers are getting tired of going
around in circles.  I have followed NASCAR for many years, and am getting
bored with the whole media circus and primadona drivers.  Formula 1 is
pretty much as bad.  SCCA is a great answer to all of these.  Exciting road
courses with left AND RIGHT turns on every course, not just one or two.  And
if the bug gets ya bad enough, you can go racing locally at a real SCCA
event for very little mullah.  With SOLO events you don't even have to rub
fenders with anyone in the corner.  If you wipe out, you run over a traffic
cone or two, not hit a wall.  I can't wait until your first title.

How much did it cost for you to run one of those?  Also, whatever HAPPENED to
the Archer Brothers?

How much does it cost to get involved in SCCA?  I've been curious, but finances
have not been kind in the past... :(

Well, One of the Archer Brothers ran Lemans for Chyrsler this year.  On a
YEars Budget to run Formula Atlantic I am not usre what the cost is now and
back in the early 80s I was just working on the car not doing any money
gathering.  I would think tho for a fast and good SCCA club racing season
in a FA car would be less then a 100 grand including runoffs.

Membership is around 50 to 60 bucks a year.  With this you get the SportCar
magizine from the SCCA too and a lot of insurance converage when you are at
SCCA events.  I think its worth it.

Oh man ... we got a security leak here already. With E3 so close, I'm sure
you can understand why I can't say more at this point.
