Does anyone know what the physics is like in Mercedes Benz World Racing (for
the PC?).

I'm getting bored with my current list of sims, and am after something new,
but I don't want to fork out the cash for it if the physics is rubbish.

What I really want is a more up-to-date version of Viper Racing, or possibly
NFS:PU, both of which had pretty good physics (especially Viper Racing).

I *don't* want to fork out for another NFS:HS type game!

TIA,
A.

It's certainly comparable to NFS:PU.  It really needs a graphics card with
good pixel shaders such a Radeon 9600 or better.  It looks fantastic on one
of those.  The main problem with the game is that there isn't any network
play.  The menu system/game structure is also pretty confusing.

I agree, menu is ***and no network ***, altough it has been announced
(patch)
but if you have the hardware to run it, you won't be disappointed i think
i'm really having fun with it. and with 127 cars (every model) that have
their own behavior, it's very cool

the only downside i think is the fact that you are rewarded extra skill
points if you slide
the "excellent slide" is only awarded when you try to go rally style which ,
on asfalt, is hardly a fastest way of getting around
but that's the only thing that bugs me

I've been playing MBRW lately, and I think it's a good game. The physics
overemphasize sliding, which seems to be what the game is all about (you
even get awarded for good slides). It feels great when you do it right
though, it's just a lot of fun. The graphics are definitely up to par with
NFS:PU, it's got some long and varied tracks, with lots of aircrafts flying
about the place. Lots of cars available too, all Mercedes Benz of course
(duh). Main gripe: the menus are awful, not intuitive at all IMHO.

If you enjoyed NFS:PU, my guess is you'll like this game as well. There's a
demo if you're still not convinced... :-)

Cheers, I'll download the demo and take a look this evening.  But from your,
and others, comments, it sounds like it might be worth spending the money on
:-)  (In fact, I *may* just pop into a PC shop after work today and see if
they have it in stock!).

One more quick question:  Can you replay races?  I get annoyed at games/sims
which don't allow this (NFS:U for one, which IMO is inexcusable!).  There's
nothing better than driving a hard race, then sitting down with a cup of
coffee and reliving it from different angles!

Yep, there are replays. There are only three action-type views available in
replays though, a bit shabby by today's standards. You might want to have a
donut with your coffee to make up for that  :-)

Right you are.  I'll try and pick up MBWR and a dozen donuts tonight then
:-)

Thanks,

I really love it.  The graphics are fantastic.  My wheel works perfectly
with it too (original TM Ferrari).

Like others have said, the menu system isn't very intuitive but you get
used to it.

The locations and tracks are quite varied.  There are some familiar
areas but for the most part each track/road is unique.

If you're in North America I'm not sure if it can be bought here yet.  I
had to order it online from a UK-based place.

Cheers, enjoy 'em (and the game). There's a multiplayer-patch coming out by
the end of the year, so check out the website
http://www.tdkm.com/games/mercedes-benz/ or this group regularly.

I ordered this from www.interactcd.com for $33 with shipping (to Texas)

They're a small company in the Los Angles/Pasadena CA. area that specializes
in hard to find / import games.
I bought the original Colin McRae rally and ToCA games from them when they
were still UK imports back in 1997-1998, so they have bee around awhile and
are a trustworthy and reputable company to order from.

I agree I've had a blast with this game, even though it's more arcade than
sim, and I also agree that the menu system sucks.
They are working on MBWR 2 slated to come out late in 2004 that according to
rep's from the software company that made this game will have a better menu
system and less hoo-ha flying around in the air (like UFO's, blimps, planes,
etc, etc) to distract the racer and eat up framerate.

I agree that Interact is a great source for ordering imported games.  One
question about MBWR though:  Does it support multiple simultaneous controllers?
(ie - Logi MOMO Wheel and TSW peds)

Thanks!

I'll have to bookmark that site for MBWR2.

I also got MBTR from a UK place when that came out; what a hoot that
game is: no ABS and you're driving the front end of a semi at 150+mph.  :)

Try Live for Speed.  NFS sort of gameplay with GPL physics.
