the most authentic NASCAR racing experience with new revolutionary 3D
graphics that will bring to life the sights, thrills, and sounds of racing
at 193 MPH.

"We wanted to capture the true essence of the environment on and
around the track," said Rich Yasi, seven-year veteran of Papyrus and Design

Since 1994, Papyrus Racing Games has developed award winning racing
titles that have set the standard in delivering the most realistic and
authentic driving experience for the PC. With over a decade of experience in
developing racing games, the team is ready to expand their expertise and
explore new ideas for the racing genre on multiple *** platforms.

"Papyrus has a longstanding reputation for developing racing titles of

NASCAR? Racing 2003 Season Papyrus - Full Release From Sierra!

With over a decade of experience in developing racing games, the team is
ready to expand their expertise and explore new ideas for the racing genre
on multiple *** platforms.

I wonder if this signals the end of the PC online era and the start of
things like
Sony.Net and Microsoft.Net broadband *** series for the PS2 and XBOX.

The developers I work with always tell me that the PC is a dead end deal and
the consoles have the volume.  Now maybe they can make a profit.  What do
we have now.. 3 major *** corporations that have swallowed up about
100 *** publishers..

I hope not. I've never owned a game console and never will.  Why have one of
them when  you have a PC?

Steve Blankenshi

NASCAR? Racing 2003 Season Papyrus - Full Release From Sierra!

by Steve Blankenshi » Thu, 05 Sep 2002 09:47:07

A bit of fuel for the speculative fires... from the forum.

"Papyrus has a longstanding reputation for developing racing titles of high
quality and originality, " said Mike Ryder, President of Sierra, " Our
decision to support the team in creating and developing new concepts in the
racing genre, signifies our confidence in the Papyrus Racing team."

"We're e***d by the opportunities this presents," said Rich Reily, General
Manager of Papyrus, "The knowledge we have gained in working with the
NASCAR? racing franchise has been invaluable. With the full support of
Sierra behind us and the creative insight of this talented studio, I have no
doubt that the superior quality Papyrus fans have come to expect will
definitely be translated into more spectacular racing titles."

Interesting reading between those lines.  And finally,

"As Papyrus completes the final lap in the NASCAR? Racing series, a new
legacy begins for the team that set the standard in the racing simulation
genre."

New legacy, eh?

My read is that EA's probably bought exclusive rights beginning in '04, so
Sierra/Papy have no choice but to move on.  Weep or Rejoice, as suits your
interest... ;-)
