Slightly OT F1 start at Monaco yesterday

Yesterday at the start of the F1 race in Monaco, on the 2nd start a computer
failure activated the red flag procedure and the race stopped for a 3rd
start.

Okay, computers are crashing sometimes, we all know that, I will not do the
usual Microsoft jokes we all know.

4 drivers stalled the engines due to a small crash AFTER the red flag (like
20 seconds after), they had to run back to the pits, climb into their
T-Cars...AND START FROM THE PITS...

So the question is :
Since the faulty computer if FIA operated, it is a FIA mistake
Why do drivers have to suffer from a FIA mistake ?

The implications of a code red should be common knowledge among teams.
Therefore , when the accident occurred, there was ample time for the teams
to prepare a spare car and for the driver to get back to the pits (about 20
minutes). If a spare was still available it would have suffised to tell the
driver to stall the car, leave it for what is was and get back to the pits
pronto. BAR managed to put two cars on the grid in the same time Benetton
only managed to get Wurz to the end of the pitlane (and they had the whole
of the 2nd start procedure to prepare a spare as well). Once a new start
time is announced the pitlane closes a certain time before that (5 mins?), a
fact which should also be common knowledge among teams.

No, I don't think so. According to the ITV coverage, the red flag was shown
as a result of the crash at Loews, not before. The director at Monaco simply
showed the incident as a replay after the flag. We didn't see it in the
actual sequence that it happened. Incidentally, it's still unclear as to
whose fault it was - but it seems that Pedro de la Rosa attempted an overly
optimistic pass around the outside of Button at the hairpin, although there
really wasn't enough room to do so.

If you like trivia, it used to be the Station Hairpin...And Anthony Noghes
used to be called Gasworks. Anyone know why? Was there a station where the
Grand Hotel now stands (previously Loews Hotel ;-) )

I think there used to be a train station at that location.
