i think thats the only reason left why papy hasn't released it yet.
good marketing dictates that they should wait so that interest in icr2
will be high when gp2 comes out.  maybe sierra and micro***s are
playing mexican standoff....

ICR2 patch before F1GP2 release?

Well folks, it looks like a close race, will we see Sierra release
the ICR2 patch before Microprose has F1GP2 out the door?

Stay tuned for the exciting finish after these words from our sponsor.

Seriously, for the last few weeks since about the middle of June, I
log into my account daily and check this newsgroup in anticipation of
word about either release, with no luck.

I just hope ICR2's patch comes out first, as I don't think I will
be paying much attention to ICR2 for a few weeks after F1GP2 releases.

Cheers.

What a crock! Does anyone who regularly visits this newsgroup really
expect a patch from Papyrus to steal Microproses' thunder? The reason
it's being delayed is not because of marketing - although I hate
marketing people - it's to do with final revisions and quality
assurance and, maybe, the inertia that a giant like Sierra has.
Papyrus can talk about the patch, and in their eyes it may be
finished. But the "bureaucracy" which accompanies such a large firm,
like Sieera, prevents the finished product from being posted
immediately.

Just my 0.02 worth.

<<What a crock! Does anyone who regularly visits this newsgroup
really expect a patch from Papyrus to steal Microproses' thunder?>>

If GPII is as good as I'm (we're?) expecting, no.

<<The reason it's being delayed is not because of marketing,
although I hate marketing people, it's to do with final revisions and
quality assurance and, maybe, the inertia that a giant like Sierra
has.>>

Here's the question labored by most contributors to this group: Why
is "The Patch" (tm) taking so long when the full Win95/new DOS/Mac
versions are in the store? How can quality assurance be an issue when
there is a full version available that, I hope, has already had some
degree of quality assurance testing. I know the Papierra employees are
sick of our ranting, but, as my dad always says, acting in extreme
defense is sometimes as good as admitting you're wrong.
Do I expect them just to sit back and take it while we trash them?
No. If someone called me on a screw-up I made I'd be upset, too.

<<Papyrus can talk about the patch, and in their eyes it may be
finished, but the "bureaucracy" which accompanies such a large firm like
Sierra prevents the finished product from being posted immediately.>>

By George, I think he's got it! Remember this: Companies are out to
make money first and help the customer sometime well after that. Nobody
goes into business "...because I want to help the consumer."
Whatever Papierra does with the patch/upgrade/whatever will be in
their own best interests, not the public's.

you and i both know that gp2 "should" be better than icr2, but do you
think that papy and sierra are sitting there saying "i give up.  gp2 is
going to cream us!  lets just pack it in." of course not.  they are
going to fight tooth and nail to take away any little bit of thunder
that they can from micro***s.  besides, what do you think is going to
happen when all those people get home with that gp2 box, boot it up and
find out that their p75/90/100 can only get about 9-10 fps or some other
framerate that is unacceptable to them?  back over to icr2.......

yea, yea, thats the ticket.......

excuse me, but this is marketing. you just indirectly proved my point.

Well, supposedly the release of GP2 is being held up so that it can come out
conjunction with the fanfare of its "home" British GP...

...Since Sierra is HQed in the state of Washington, maybe they're waiting to
release the patch so that it's released in conjunction with the fanfare of its
nearby Molson Indy Vancouver race...?  :-)

Especially since they missed releasing during the Portland Grand Prix in
nearby Oregon :-(
