F1GP2 Release Question

by Daniel Bets » Thu, 24 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

Yesterday, I received my September copy of PCGamer. I was looking through the classifieds, when I saw a company
advertising F1GP2 at  31.99. I then looked at some other software companies, and almost all of them were
advertising F1GP, on CDROM only, for between  30- 32.

My question is this:

1.. Is there an official release date yet?
2.. Would it be worth pre-ordering a copy?
3.. Do we REALLY have to wait until Christmas?

Last month they did a major preview of F1GP2. However, it seems that the game is based on the '94 season. I hope
that this has been altered for the '95 season, as there are a lot of differences in regulations. Also, if it comes
out at Christmas, we will be looking forward to the '96 season, and the game will be effectively out of date.

Just for fun, my hopes:

1.. Ability to specify driver characteristics
2.. Ability to not just have car horespower, to determine the fastest, but also have car handling capabilities
3.. Sensible team orders. Eg, I drive Jordan, and I lead the WC. My teammate lets me pass for position.
4.. Back markers not attempting suicidal passes to unlap themselves
5.. A lot more unreliable AI cars and accidents to AI cars
6.. More than the normal 16/17 circuits. I would love to be able to buy add on circuits, such as the OLD
Silverstone, the OLD Monza, (pre chicane days), Brands Hatch and Zandvoort. Having the ability to add tracks would
be incredible. Microprose could make an absolute fortune, because I am positive that there are thousands of people
who would enjoy the game more if they were able to race around the legendary circuits. I don't want a track
EDITOR, as that would not be realistic. I just want to have a LOT more famous tracks.

Cheers

Dan
ps - Same goes for the much awaited Championship Manager 2 footy game. This has been advertised a lot, but nobody
knows a release date! Oh well...

That's right. I certainly hope that F1GP2 will be out before the end of the
'95 season. Perhaps they can make a patch later to include the '95 season.

Good point. I hate track editors. I have no idea of what a certain track looks
like when I have to come and design it. I will just dump whatever silly
curves chicanes and straights and call it a racing circuit. I'd rather have
someone design it close to the real thing and race around it.

There's one more thing I'd like to add. Different driver attitudes. Some
drivers are more aggressive than others. Some drivers perform better in
the rain than others (e.g. Ayrton Senna, RIP). Some drivers make less
mistakes (e.g. Alain Prost) than others, I would definitely want to see
those implemented in F1GP2.

It's the 94 season because that's what they've licensed. You wouldn't
believe the contortions they've had to go through to secure the rights
to makes this an official FIA licensed game, which is why we got one
season last time and will only get one this time.

We can only hope they either provide or make it easy for us to provide
editors and stuff.
