In fact I was in the lead on the last lap without even knowing it before
I pushed too hard (unnecessarily) and blew it!
So I know how Hakinnen feels (well almost!).
I'm still trying to break the magic 2 minutes though - my best is
2:00.10 - so near and yet so far!
PS: My favourite track is still Zandvoort!
I just started up with Rouen to get a break from the Ring
and it is a great track. I'm dipping into the 2:05s and feel
like I'm up against a bit of a wall. Got any hints ?

I did a 2:00.14 in a race against the AI and I made quite a few
mistakes, so I'm sure it's possible for me to go faster with my existing
setup (I'm using the default GPL 1.1 setup for the Lotus).
Did you check out the track guides at
http://lightsoutracing.simplenet.com/trackguides/index.html - I'm still
way off the guide times they give at most of the tracks, so I still have
much to learn!

There is no question, that would help, and I keep trying. It's just that I
have trouble getting my inner kamikazi to cooperate.

Thanks Niel. Just checked it out. These are some of the most detailed
track guides I've ever seen, great site.

this depends on the car you are driving! I use the same technique with
the brabham, but not with the ferrari for example! according to the
racing books I read, you should always start with using a late apex and
develop your line from there, because you are less likely to get into
trouble and you will find your line faster and it is much easier to use
the whole track this way.
btw: I just purchased "going faster - the skip barber racing school" and
I found it VERY helpful!
