Is there a way to adjust the # of qualifiers separately from adjusting the #
of AI in the main screen?

I mean an adjustment that would allow you to race against a certain # of
drivers (that you set with the slider in the game), but qualify in a smaller
group (with the remainder then starting "at the back").

nope, can't do that

u could try aitweak to slow some of the cars down...
