If you're a GPL slowpoke like me, and can't figure out why you can't
break the 1:10 barrier at Watkins Glen, do yourself a favor and point
your browser to the tracks guides at:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

There's only a few up there (and in fact WatGlen isn't one of them)
but they are incredibly helpful. (If you don't already have them you
should also get Alison's Coventry or Ferrari setups:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/).

One error I hadn't recognized is that I was simply shifting up too
late in corners. Not only was I losing valuable acceleration time, but
I just didn't know that shifting up gives you extra traction if you're
car is drifting wide (and thus an early upshift confers an even
greater advantage).

Try it at Watkins Glen. Going through the banked curve at the end of
the straight in 2nd, push the gas a little harder. When you start to
drift up shift into 3rd. You can use the same technique on the hairpin
and the hard right that precedes it.

Does anyone know if there are other well-done track guides on the net?

Oh by the way, driving Alison's Ferrari, within fif*** minutes of
reading the track guides I clocked a 1:09.69 at Watkins Glen. Then a
1:09.54. Then a 1:09.11. Heading back to shoot for 1:08...

Yep, the LOR track guides are excellent. I learned so much from them.
Can't wait for the Ring trackguide (should be 200 pages if he does it
in the same quality as the curent guides :)

Err no, but I will pass on one tip; look *into* the corner as you
approach, i.e. look at where you want to be - at the apex rather than
straight ahead or down at the 'line' on the track. Get it so that you
can eitehr start your braking by looking into the corner or if the
corner is obscured - as soon as you can.

Look where you want to go and the car just magically follows.

Also at the Glen, whenever i'm just plain flying thru the esses (about half
the time i do, half the time i crash :) i let off and shift into 4th just
before the second one (in the brabham).  It gets me the acceleration, and
the time that I let up on the gas lets the front end get back down onto the
pavement so the tires can do their job of turning the car.
