I have no experience with CPR, two weeks with F1RS.  About all I can tell
you is pay close attention to the hardware requirements of each.  F1RS is
very very new and therefore demands up to date hardware to run well.
The simulation is fantastic.  I'm sure you'll get loads of input here on
both, but if you're relatively new to this *** simulation stuff... study
up on the hardware required.

You might track through my post of 6/2 and sift through the 20 or so
responses I got.

Good Luck

I have both, and right now I am playing more Cart, simply because I can
actually compete. But I am also new to racing sims. F1RS seems 'better' but
like I said, it's very frustrating to always come in last, way last!

F1RS is what CPR could have been.  The lack of anti aliasing is enough to
give you a head ache just playing CPR.  Don't bother with CPR until they
finally make it work properly. The potential is good but just needs alot of
work. You need a Voodoo graphics card (recommend Canopus Pure 3D or Pure
3DII) to use F1RS properly.  The fastest computer won't help CPR.

George,
F1RS is difficult to learn and certainly much more challenging to
race. Of course the graphics are much better. And the AI is much better.
And the framerate is much better. And it actually deserves to be called a
sim, as opposed to a software ***.
I wasn't going to start ranting and raving, but I just can't help it
where CPR is concerned. Like many people I eagerly awaited the release of
Microsoft's racing sim (well, that's what THEY call it.) The screenshots
looked great and it showed quite a bit of promise. Then they dropped the
ball, and I mean completely. The thing should never have even shipped
when it did, if at all, ever. They did not do anti-aliasing, so it looks
like shit. The original release forced you to use their crappy Direct3d
API, which runs real well on a Cray. Then they bullshitted everybody in
the newsgroup and said- "We did the comparison tests, and D3D runs just
as fast as Glide." Yah, right.... what Einstein thought up that
statement? I ran the patches and it still looked like shit. Then they
_finally_ released the Glide executable and said rather sheepishly,
"Here, look what we found, try this guys." I got so fed up with CPR and
Microsoft's bullshit half-ass attempt at support in this newsgroup that I
just deleted the whole shebang and proudly use the CD for a good looking
coffee cup coaster.
There, I feel a little better now. I think I'll fire up the world
class F1RS and take a few turns around Monaco. Or Spa. Or Silverstone.
Ahhhh.... thats better. All the best, Mike

I believe it was simply a 56K DLL which enabled Glide in the game.
Rumors at the time were that the game was created with Glide
support but MS refused to allow it's inclusion. I guess I am sort
of boycotting MS sims now...
