If this is the only probelm (i.e. the T2 calibrates and drives right)
just press the 'J' key, it will turn off the joystick control of the
menus.

Sounds like dueling joysticks.  The cheap solution for me is to buy a
Joystick extension cable (found mine at Software Etc.).  This gets my
joystick port out from behind the computer, next to the wall, and
covered with cables -- out front where I can easily unplug one unit and
plug in another.  Others have gone out and bought a joystick
switch-box.

Sounds like you need an extension cable and an on off switch box for
joystick
