For sure both rFactor and NetKar-Pro are community sims but they are
different in approach.
Rfactor provides a basis for the community to mod the product and make
it complete. The off the shelf package does not offer a complete off
line experience as say GT Legends, the tools dont exist for online
leagues and the cars & tracks are limited. It needs the community to
embrace it and mod it to succeed.
NetKar-Pro is being designed along with the sim community. The initial
release is even more basic than rFactor no AI and no online tools
either, plus it is rougher around the edges and needs some fixes before
it can be considered a stable product. However, the nature of the
development allows it to be more flexible in developing patches and
adding featues in a relatively short time scale compared with larger
teams days/weeks rather than months.
My summary would be that rFactor is being designed for the sim community
to work with, NetKar-Pro is being designed with the sim community.
Either way I believe it is good news for us. The loss of NR2003 as a
development platform seems a long way off now.
Cheers
