Will we still all be playing this sim in 2005 because nothing better has
come along by then?  Let's face it, GPL is a work of love from papy, and the
we're all going to be stuck on it like the people still playing quakeworld,
and the people who played falcon3 until su-27 was released.

I won't be. GPL is good but not that good. To be honest, If nothing
Better then gpl comes out this year I'll probably hang up my old wheel.

I too am getting bored with GPL.  I found N3 as a distraction, fun, but not
really as good as GPL.

GP3 and WSC are next..  fingers crossed....  until then.. I might actually
go and get a life  :-)))))

GPL will remain the top sim with me until somebody with the expertise comes
along and gives us either Can-Am 1960's, Trans-Am 1960's or Le Mans 1960's
:-)

Or all three!

Personally, I'd be quite happy racing GPL for a good many years to come,
despite the possibility of newer and better additions to the F1 genre.

GP3 looks set to cause an absolute storm amongst its fans, so it might not
be too long before many of us reduce the time we spend on GPL, but to stop
racing it altogether, not a chance.

Best regards,

I heard that before James, but you still pay it :)

For many of us, GPL represents =racing= not playing games. It is possible
that, even with technically "better" simulations available in the future,
that GPL will continue to be used, just as vintage race cars continue to be
raced.

I can't get into N3 at all (the demo, I haven't bought it). I'm not
even a GPL diehard - I like the game, but I also like a good arcade
racer (loved Midtown Madness for example). The problem with N3 is that
is IS a sim - just not as good a one as GPL. I tried the Texas track
in the N3 demo and thought "this is ok". Then I converted the track
into GPL and tried running it there - wow, what a difference! The
feeling of the car via FF, the instantaneous response from
throttle-steering - everything just felt so much better, so much more
real.

I was e***d about N3 before it was released, it didn't sound bad.
But it's driving/physics/FF model really is outdated. It's time for
Papy to retire it. I know I won't be buying any more sims that aren't
based on something at least as good as GPL.

Only trouble for the people who walk this road is the fact that they will be
walking a rather lonely path in the offline world. I'll buy GP3 but it's
certainly a backward step in terms of real racing with real people.

Well, the rules of soccer, baseball etc haven't changed much recently and
people still play them :-)

Ok, not an entirely valid analogy, but where GPL's concerned it has all
the elements in place for a long life. Active online community, physics
which will be hard (but not impossible :-) to beat, and graphics which
scale well with improved PC power.

I'd really like something better to come along. I hope GP3 comes close,
but it needs the online support to compete, because although AI racing can
be a blast, there is *nothing* like a good race on VROC.

Still, GP2 only supports modem-play, ie 2 players. You can emulate this
with kali, but if GP3 doesn't come with network code enabling 20 drivers,
there's not much that Kali can do for you either
(kali emulates an IPX network through TCP/IP=internet)

There should be some new tracks from the guys at GPLEA soon as well as car
sets. This should help prolong it somewhat. Who knows what else this
wonderful team will come up with.

If nothing comes out till then with the quality of GPL then yes I will still
be racing GPL, maybe I'll even be pretty good at it by then. I wonder what
the fastest Monza lap will be then? 1:24.??

I bought N3 mainly because of the better graphics, the physics they said
they reworked feel the same as N2 to me. After racing GPL on the converted
tracks N3 just seems sluggish and slow. The feeling you get at Tally with
GPL just blows away N3, you feel like you're flying around that track which
is the way it should be. I went back to N3 and thought I my setup was messed
up or something. I hope N4 IS GPL in a nascar or a lot of people on this
newsgroup will be highly dissappointed!
