I was wondering when Imola at san marino started being used a track in
f1?

Being my favourite track in F1 Grand Prix on the amiga, I was
wondering if development was in the pipeline for a conversion to GPL.

if we're lucky maybe someone will have a blast at the gp3 tracks when
it's released.

anyway food for thought....

Montreal.  Magny-Cours.  Interlagos.  Suzuka.

Those are mostly the only tracks that are still "intact".  Well the term
"lately" can be took in a very vague way.  If you consider 20years "lately",
then I would also have to exclude tracks like Spa.

Interlagos was once a huge track Frank...at least that's what I hear Derek Bell
say every F1 race there.
Magny-Cours?  What the hell is that doing on the list, it's a lame track...no
need to ruin it since it's always been bad.
What about Indy, Malaysia, or Melbourne?  Those tracks are still intact. ;-)

Legit question:  Has Hungaroring been changed any?

I know, I only wanted to say that a lot of tracks have been ruined.
Just compare most GPL-tracks to their current version... Spa, sigh...
Monza... oh no...

Yes it was almost the doublt in lenght, but it wasn't for the best.  It was
mostly more twists and turns like the middle portion of the current circuit.
Nothing interesting, simply slow and long corners.

I like it, Jon :)    Turn 3 is a blast to watch, and there it's actually a
good passing track with at least 2place for passing (before the backstretch
180 and going into the last chicane).  Might be a modern track but at least
it's a fast modern track.  I would still prefer Clermont-Ferrand, Rouen,
Paul Ricard or <sigh> Reims to Magny-Cours :)

;-)

Well yeah :)   Not much history there I say.

There was once slow esses exiting T3 (where now you have a little stretch
going uphill).  Forix.com says that the track also differed a couple of
meters in it's history, but that could simply be some little corner
differences or new track measurements.

Hungoraring was ruined while it was being built. Originally intended to be a
much longer and faster track, the constructors suffered subsidence every
time they surfaced the track. The problem was eventually traced to an
underground spring and the offending section was abandoned before
completion.

Only problem with converting any non-Papy tracks is that most of the time it
isn't converting, it's rewriting the whole thing...

ALL of the track converters for ANY Papy sim work on the principle that the
track format has changed little from game to game...in most situations
(excluding GPL) all that is necessary is a pallete change and good AI.  GPL
brings in a few more things IIRC and the format in GPL has too much data for
the older N2/3/L engine so converting down is harder...

Well, that god-awful chicane at Suzuka, right before the last turn, mars an
otherwise great track.  Although, looking at the track maps on Forix, it seems
that it has been there since at least 1987.

Exactly that, the chicane was put in place in time for F1's first visit
to Suzuka in 1987. Before that it was pretty much the same apart from
that last turn, which would be amazing in GPL :-)
