Hi all,
after it seems impossible to race a new Cart-Sim in the next few years
it would be a clever idea from Microsoft/Terminal Reality to bring a
patch :)) for CPR. This patch could solve the steering probs, the really
bad 'AI' and maybe a better breaking feeling.
Oops, I woke up from a dream:)) Or not??
If someone from TR read this NG: have a look at Randy Cassidy from Papy.
He did a patch in his spare-time.
Cheers
Dirk

How many additional sales would this generate....? Coincidentally that
number is also the percentage chance of a new patch :-)

Cheers!

Don't kid yourself, Microsoft ain't Papyrus.  The only patch would
be called "CPR2000".  They probably think they should have spent
more of the budget on marketing.

I'm sure Microsoft would love to hear about him.  They'd have him
working on cutesy toolbars and OLE gadgets for Office2000.  In his spare time,
of course.

No slight intended against Cassidy.  He should be collecting royalties
from Logitech.

If Papyrus ports ICR2 to 3dfx Win32 (or Linux), with higher
resolutions, toss in what FF they can with the old physics model,
and update some of the tracks such as Portland, I will buy it direct.
I race the Phoenix port in GPL, and those gfx are good enough, as
I get to look at bilinear filtered 1024x768 at 36fps on a V2.

As far as I'm concerned, Papyrus/Cassidy have some money coming to them.  I
waited until GPL dropped to $15 ( a BIG mistake, heard
it might be to hard ).   They could have sold the FF patch, some tracks, a lens
flare <chuckle> as "Monaco Grand Prix Legends 2"
and I'd have bought it immediately, and been grateful.

Good point. We all know that the GPL patch created at least one
additional GPL sale (me).

The problem is that the company who did CPR is Terminal Reality, and
they are no longer with MS.  But as far as I know, MS paid for all the
rights to the CART license, and only they have the right to patch it.
Since the two companies are no longer in league, I would write off
anything in the way of a patch.  I think we'd be more likely to see a
new version from a different development shop than we would be see any
TRI code get patched

I would have expected MS to buy the CPR code from TRI. It is their
style after all :-)

I don't think Microsoft would buy that bad of code, i.e. TRI's
codebase...ugh
