DTM Mod view problem

by Milo Johnso » Fri, 26 Dec 2003 08:31:26

I seem to sit to low in the car to get a good view of the road. I know this
also happened in GTR and I also know there are files that can be edited but
I don't remmember which and which values to change.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks  MILO

Edit the .veh file for the team you are driving for in the vehicles folder. You will find the line:

Eyepoint=(0.40, 0.773, 0.34 )

Edit the first set of numbers I believe. I know the last set determines how far away you sit from dash and I think the middle number is where you are located in the***pit. Try .50 and see if you like that.

Milo....

If the convention used for the DTM mod follows the basic driver FOV
convention for F1-C and F1-200x....then the first number in the set as Aaron
suggested above, will move the driver's head left and right.  You probably
should change that number unless the head is really not centered on the
steering wheel.  The second number moves the head up and down, with a (+)
number (from zero at center) moving the head up and a (-) moving the head
down.  The last number moves the head forward and backward, with a (+)
number moving it backwards and a (-) number moving it forwards.

Again, this would only be true if they makers of the DTM didn't alter the
standard FOV/driver's head position convention from the original F1-C.  I
would assume they didn't.....but you'll have to use trial and error if they
did.  Also, if you move the driver's head up....sometimes it is
necessary/desirable to change the driving view FOV settings.  I don't know
where this setting is for the DTM mod.....I only know where it is for the
basic F1-C and F1-200x.  Perhaps someone else will tell you in this
newsgroup?

Also, you probably already know this.....but those DTM drivers do sit very
low in the***pit of those cars......and those GT cars all have "fat" and
long hoods.....I doubt they can see the road immediately in front of them
(much like a Winston Cup driver can not see the road in front).......and I
recall from watching some DTM races on SpeedTV last week.....the driving
view is very restricted.  So....for realism simming.....I bet the makers of
the DTM mod have the driving position correctly set to match what the
real-world drivers get!  If I am right.....then you take away from the
realism of the sim by moving the driver's head up so you can see.  Where do
you draw the line, then?  Maybe you should move the head up to above the
window?  I'm being silly.....but I hope it makes my point?  Depends on
whether your enjoyment is playing racing games.....or engaging in realistic
simulated racing.  Both are acceptable uses......but the "game" thing won't
get you much respect around here (so just don't tell anyone....LOL....).

Regards,

Tom
