Hey, just curious to know just how bad of a nascar sim junkie I am compare
to everyone else.
How many hours a day would you say you spend racing, either against the AI
or online??
                        Hmm...  this should be interesting!

Usually an hour or so every weeknight, and 2-3 hours on weekends.
Usually modem, occasionaly Hawaii and if I'm really desparate AI.
I consider myself a moderate junkie, not quite die-hard.
Hope this gets lots of responses!

I'm a racing Junkie.  But I'm not picky. I have Grand Prix 2, IndyCar II
(Rendition), and NASCAR for my PC, and Formula One, Andretti Racing and
NASCAR for my Playstation.  I try to race one of them every night.  I've
been spending the most time on Formula One for the Playstation, as it is
in my opinion the best balanced sim of my entire collection (e.g. its not
the greatest sim, but it "feels" the best).

I've been averaging 2 hours a day..every day..for nearly two years.
It's the only sim I have ever bought that has never been relegated to
my shelf to gather dust..Thanks to Papyrus I am never bored!

Hmm ICR2, NASCAR, GP2, married job Golf, and military sims, not to
mention a BAseball League that I commision, come-on like I have time?
well, lets see if I schedule IndyCAr from Jan-May, cause its 1st, NASCAR
from MAy-Sep cause its longest, and GP2 till Indycar starts (or is
replaced by NASCAR2) yeah, every night a little, weekends THE RACE (no
restarts really improves being patient adds realism) appriciation of
differences sets in to . . . no I'm not a junkie - I don't inhale!

My name is Dave and I'm a racing sim junkie.  All I can think about all
day is getting home and having a refreshing race on ICR2, GP2 or
Nascar.  Some nights I'll race a double and for a twist I'll race with
damage on!  The down side is I've been seen*** out at the local
software stores waiting for a fix of Nascar 2.  My friends (who I don't
see very often) want to help(?)me by recommending a cult deprogramming
specialist, BUT I REFUSE!  I don't think I have a problem and if you
don't believe me just ask my ex-wive.

Seriouslt though, this is probably the closest I'll ever get to racing a
real car, and it's a total blast!!!

Yep... Very interesting.... :-)

I use 2-4 hours a week on GP2 (GP2 only ;-) ICR2 is ***y impossible
!!!!!!!!
In the F1 season I race with a friend, when the real F1 race is driven.
Practice 4-6 hours before the session, and then a full race day with 6-8
hours. The looser gives a free meal afterwards ;-)

It's just an amazing game !!!!!

On average I'm plopped in front of the "cathode Road" approx 31/2 hours
per day.  Before GP2 all of that was Nascar seat time...From Dec 94 to
a couple of months ago.
Before I had back surgery I raced 100% races exclusively.. now  mostly
run 25 to 50%...except GP2, I run 100% races.
On weekends the total hours rise to about 5hours on average. I should
be better at Nascar than I am for all of the hours but only recently
learned how to race with multi.exe offline against AI. The rest of my
free hours are spent doing race related stuff like reading suspension
theory books and doing that horrible math or trying to glean the hidden
meaning of all the posts here.:)

As a side note of obsession:
I have a home built chair loaded with speakers.. attached to my
recording studios' power amp and mixer..(literally shakes your eyeballs
if I turn it up too much. I own two steering setups in case one fails
and for routine maintainance. This Saturday I'm getting a dedicated
phone line for racing installed in my studio. I've two computers null
modem limked for offline multi racing against the AI (Nascar, haven't
tried GP2 linked yet). Participate in the Slowpokes league on Hawaii,
NRH before that..and Randy's GP2 league offline.
And finally, I have an understanding pit crew...er family who actually
bring me cold drinks during races and occasionally hit the ctrl f1 keys
for me during Hawaii races.

I am a moderate junkie when it comes to sim racing. I am also
not fussy on what I race. I have just about all the sims and
arcade racing games. My objective is to see if I can shave off
my best times on all of them. Anxious to see the new batch of
sims coming out this winter. Fascinated with all the outstanding
graphics of the games now days and with a Pentium 200Mhz system, I can
run most anything at full detail except Monoco for GP2.

I probably race about an 1-2 hours on weeknights and depending on racing
schedules with SSCRA, 2-4 hours on the weekened. Summertime I slack off
because of outdoor activities.

OK...try this one on<g>....Two years ago when Papy came out with
NASCAR Racing, I didnt even own a computer, and had no plans to buy one.
Until....that is, I took a spin around Tally on a friends computer.
pretty cool...but I dont own a computer...

Flash ahead to Christmas morning...I open my present from my wife and
find a copy of the Sim taped to the side of a Thrustmaster T-1 box.
First question outa my mouth is "what the hell am I suppose to do with
this, we dont own a computer!?!?!  My darling wife says, no problem we're
gonna buy one tomorrow!

Well, since that day, there aint been more than a dozen or so that I
havent spent some time on the sim. I generally do some form of practice
every night from 10 to 2am, sometimes head to head with a buddy, but alot
of the time I'm just out there running laps, looking for faster ways
around.

I've been a beta tester since Sept 95 and at last count have over
430 starts on line, most of them done in one of 6 leagues that I've run
all at the same time and if that aint enough, and sometimes it's not..<G>
I jump in for some thrill seeking and do a pick-up race or two. There's
nothing like the thrill of surviving the first lap of a Tally green flag
start race to get the ole heart apumpin"<G>.

The only reason I'm here now is because I'm taking a break from
practice at Atlanta for a series race tomorrow night<g>, and I wanted to
catch up on the Wilshe posts <BG>....they're alot of fun too!!

This aint the whole sordid story, but that's enough for now<g>

I have been "playing" Indycar then Indycar II since May 1994. Rarely a
day goes by without at least an hour of "track" time. I'm not sick of it
yet and I am actually considering Nascar II....although I'll have to
give that a lot more consideration.
Is it possible to do both and obtain an equal measure of proficiency ?
Is there any advantage to going back and forth between Indycar and
Nascar ?
Does anyone that does both have any thoughts on it ?
Thanx

I'm definetly a Nascar junkie. I don't do Hawaii racing (though I have
tried it) because of the phone bill. If I lived in the Boston Area, I'd be
rocking the house with hawaii. I consider myself a junkie because not only
do I regularly run 4 different seasons (one with a weekend 100% race!),
but I also write a newsletter on one of the seasons. I don't care if this
is good or bad, but I really enjoy running many different seasons with
high skill levels that test my skills even against the AI. Hawaii racing
is much more challenging, but I go for the next best thing.

Tom, I not sure what the point you are trying to make is! I find this
behaviour perfectly normal and I suggest anyone that does elsewise is
an abnormal person! :-)
