Its obivious that Geoff Crammond has done a great deal of work on the game
other wise why wouldn't he release the thing on the level of hype it has so far
generated?

Anyway..... GEOFF if your reading this, please tell me.... have you got the La
Source hairpin right in GP2? in F1GP1 is was completely crap.

Just out of interest the latest GP2 advert I've seen is in PC ZONE magazine
(UK) the pages are on a green background, and the screen shots look rather
tasty :)

Given that Sir Geoffrey has never posted to this group before (I have
been reading it since it was created), it will be a miracle if he does
now!

Anyway, what precisely is wrong with La Source in F1GP?  (I have an ulterior
motive for asking this which may be revealed in due course:-)  I find it
quite a difficult corner, but I suspect it is in real life.

As one of the few in this group who've played the game I can tell you
that La Source is a lot better than last time round. I approached it at
my usual speed and gear and flew straight into the wall at the far side.
Spa is a good track on GP2 but as I only did a couple of laps I can't say
whether I like it as much as the F1GP track.
As for Silverstone... awful! The new bend down the back straight (can't
remember the name) pissed me off.

I bet La Source ia bit tricky to get COMPLETELY right. I remember watching the race at Spa
this season and the drivers took the corner differently, Hill went right out and
Schumacher kept it tucked in. It would be pretty cool for this to be possible in the game,
and even cooler if the AI cars took it differently as well. The times through the corner
were more or less the same so there didn't seem to be a faster way!!

But that's the track and not the game, so that's a relief!
I can't believe how Silverstone went from being a good track to being utterly bollocksed
up! And they see fit to use it for BTTC meetings where it is even worse (although there is
a new track at Silverstone called Silverstone National or International that will be used
next year for the BTTC).

Now call me Mr. Saddo [no actually, don't] but I've seen a picture of
Damon Hill going round Loews at Monaco on GP2, and I'm a tad
disappointed. Loews is one of the most famous parts of any track in the
world, but on the game it just showed some metal barriers. Where are
the trees, marshalls, grassy bits? This is a chilling corner but its
just too plain on the game. I hope this will be sorted before the
release.
JESUS! I really am Mr. Saddo!!!

BTW. I heard that Geoff Crammond sent someone to Monaco to take photos
so I suppose it will be right. Heres hoping...

Ray,

the La Source hairpin right in GP2? in F1GP1 is was completely crap.<<

Yes, but La Rouge made up for it <g>

If you consider the age of F1GP, the tracks are remarkably good - IndyCar
doesn't have curbs, and insists on enclosing everything with walls - even
chicanes and hairpins that don't have them in 'real life' (e.g. At the
end of the S/F straight at Portland).

As you say, the screen shots of GP2 look pretty cool - I guess we are all
gagging to try it out at home...

Steve.

Have they done the variante Ascari at Monza in the right way? (slow
at the beginning, fast at the end) In F1GP it seems they pasted it to
the circuit in the wrong way...

Well in F1GP the corner was too 'short' at the end of the circuit, and
there was grass there also.  The real La source is a wide corner where
the drivers can overtake on the outside(!) then slide the back end out and
control it knowing that the corner is alot wider on the exit.

If there were no walls in the chicanes, there would be little incentive to
slow down for them.  This has to be the reason that Papyrus put them in.

Steve,

Sorry to say but Microprose have repeatedly stated that all chicanes
will be exactly as they were for the '94 season. Sadly enough, they seem
to think of this as a good selling point rather than making all the
modified tracks stink.

So, look forward to tyre walls in Barcelona and a sappy Eau Rouge.

Cheers!
John

Dave,

I think the point Steve P was trying to make is that if Papyrus had
put curbs in, the walls would have been unnecessary.<<

Yes, well, something like that.  I was really stating that the track
modelling in the Papyrus games isn't perhaps as perfect as we all might
imagine.  As for the walls in chicanes stopping you ignore them - does
this guy want a racing sim, or a motorcross sim?

Steve.

Did they make Eau Rouge the abomination it actually was in 1994,
please tell me cheated a little bit on the authenticity here.

Ah ha! I thought I saw that chicane at Watkins Glen on Eurosport! Eh! I thought, where the
hell has that wall gone? Mind you, I always did think it was a little dangerous to have
huge armco barrier where the drivers have to brake from 180mph!!
