Probably the stupidest question ever but when I tried to launch a
little multiplayer game on my home LAN I discovered to my horror that
the session did not include any AI cars. Can I run a championship with
two players on LAN and the rest of the field AI cars???? It would
strike me as odd if I couldn't...What am I overlooking? The option
does not show !?

No you can't have AI in multiplayer races - a fairly serious flaw in the
game...

(Battlefield 1942 also suffers from this problem for all you FPS fans.)

You guys don't get it do you?  THe multi code for EA's F1 titles is
seriously crap.  Bad.  Very Very VERY bad.  Whether you have AI or not it is
still junk.  With a very good connection, and a very fast server on a very
big commercial phone line, you can have excellant multiplayer racing.  But
introduce just one slow connection and the whole thing comes grinding to a
near halt.
So forget about the AI  it would just make a bad situation, very very very
VERY bad.
However,  I don't know what it's use is...but there is a line in the .plr
file(I think I saw it there) that says something like :
Multiplayer AI=0
I wonder what changing that setting to =1 would do?

Well, he *was* talking about LAN play so even the cruddiest net code should
work on a LAN.

I really hope they add this to the next version, Me and 4 friends had a LAN
championship featuring a couple of hours practice, then a full hour of
qualification (if we needed it) and then a full 100% race (this was in
MGPRS2)...it was awesome, I wish we could do it again with a decent sim.

All the best,
Ash
