> Thanks Andi, for this wonderfull update... but I want to hear more,

> a) Is it much more difficult than F1GP 1 ?

Yes, more difficult. Car behaves very nervous when hitting the curbs
because you loose ground effect.

No, I'm really an experienced F1GP driver but this game makes me an
rookie again.

Jos Verstappen.

Monaco, naturally! The graphics are splendid.

New: Aida, Jerez.
Left out: Phoenix, Mexico.
It is the 1994 season.

Still nice in VGA, better than Indycar in VGA.

You can get out of the traps but you loose a lot of time because the
wheels are spinning all the time.

Only Ukyo Katayama ;-)

Yes.

Black flag for taking the abbreviation through the gravel traps, but it
depends if you tried to brake before. If you didn't brake then the black
flag comes out.

Two qualifying sessions. Usually Friday and Saturday. Only Monaco
Thursday and Saturday like the real sessions.

Yes but only during official training sessions, qualifying sessins and
races. Not at normal testing sessions. 80 kilometers per hour.

You can steer and brake in the pit.

You can get fixed broken front and rear wings and flat tyres.

I had a red Ferrari behind me at Hockenheim. In the rear mirror I could
see it zigzagging wildly behind me to overtake me. I thought it must be
Alesi and not Berger, it was his driving style: aggressive and
unexpected. When he overtook me I saw it was him.

No, but I think the game would not start without the CD-ROM. I'm not
sure.

And I hope you will read this answers ;-)

Stay tuned

This is good news!

I suppose 17 fps is with minimum details, but at least it is about the
same frame rate as in ICR2 with max detail.  What kind of frame rate
you are getting in traffic, like starting from grid position 10 or 15?

Pasi, slightly less desperate DX2/66 owner:-)

Please one more question :), are the cars different from each other
not the graphicly but mechanically.

Is Williams far superior to lets say  Minardi  ;or is  Ferrarri faster
on straights then any other cars , using the same setup?
Do you notice anything different in the game from Driving different
cars ?

I cannot answer most questions, cause I don't have much experience so far.

:
: Thanks Andi, for this wonderfull update... but I want to hear more,
: more more.....
:
: a) Is it much more difficult than F1GP 1 ?
Only played Amateur setting, but this seems nearly to be the same as in
GP1. Could get first place in my first race.
: b) Can you compete for the 1st place in every race already?
:    (if yes at what level)
: c) Who is driving the second Benneton?? (Jos? Johnny? JJ?)
: d) What track do you like best and why??
: e) Which tracks are new compared with F1GP1 and which are left out?
: f) Is the game still nice in VGA ??? (better than ICR2 in VGA??)
Didn't like it in VGA, even with full details. Spoiled by ICR2 in SVGA ;)
: g) what happens when you get stuck in de sandtraps.. do you leave the
:    race or can you continue after some seconds ??
You always can get out of the sandtraps, even when it's more difficult
than getting out of the green.
: h) Do computercars still crash easily like they did in the Beta-versions?
I'd seen some crashes, but don't know how often and how likely they'll
happen
: i) are there still 26 cars in each race,??
Yes.
: j) are there stop and go penalties ??? or Black flag ????
Yes. But not for exceeding the speed limit in the pits, cause there's a
throttle control for this. There are many flags described in the handbook
(even for being unfair), but I only happened to get a black flag for
taking a shortcut through a chicane. After this my throttle was
automacially reduced to 80 kmh for 5 to 10 seconds or so, but I didn't
go to the pits. Don't know If I had to.

: k) are there one or two qualifying sessions ?
Two.
: l) is there a speeding limit in the Pit?
Yes.
: m) can you steer and brake in the pit or does the computer do this
:    like in F1gp1 ??
You can do it, with a little help from the computer.
: n) When there is a failure in your car can you (when its not that bad)
:    get it fixed in the Pit ore are you just out of the race?
There are some random failures, but I didn't have one.
: o) Is the computer car's AI really that good (like you can recognise Alesi from
:    by his driving style)?
Need to have more experience with this...
: p) Do you have to give a word from the manual again when you start up the game?
No, but you need the CD. Don't think that this is for copy protection,
cause even with the full installation I recognized an access to the CD
during the game.

What's really annoying me is that I don't know who's at which position
in the race. I even don't know who's leading. This is absolutely
disturbing in a modem game, cause you don't know if you're catching up
you're human opponent or not. You only learn at the
finish line who's before and behind you. But often there's no time to
read this message, cause it's only displayed for 5 seconds, and there's
no chance to read it again (I think there was a key for this in GP1). So
especially in Monza you get this message when you're driving through the
very difficult chicane after the finish line.

: I hope to get some answers ,
:
: Greetings Patrick...

Tim,

Yes I can imagine k/b braking may be very difficult in GP2 - I haven't seen it
but if downforce and traction is modelled correctly, you should find you can
brake hard at first, and then have to progressively reduce braking pressure to
avoid locking the wheels.  If this is modelled in GP2 then trail braking would
be quite effective when the technique is mastered, but, well, I have no idea
how you'd go about doing this with the keyboard as your controls.

a. Yes it's a little bit more difficult to be fast. Braking is hard to
do without locking up the front wheels. Also you can spin off very easy.
Hit the gas in a curve !!!
b. I only played Interlagos Imola and Hockenheim cause im searching for the best
   setup.
My times seem to be competitiv 1.17.551, 1.25.272, 1.42.989
Today I will try some other tracks
c. Jos Verstappen
d. I like Montreal because it's a stop and go cource with very fast curves
e. The tracks of 1994 are in the games. That means, that there are AIDA and JEREZ
new but Phoenix and Mexico have disappeard
f. VGA looks a little bit disappointing but it still looks nice. The track texture
is very pixeled but that doesn't matter.
g. You can get out of of the sandtraps but you'll lose a lot of time cause of
   whellspining
h. No, the AI is very good. The computercars are extremly well on the brakes
they're trying to overtake at nearly impossible parts of the track.
i. Yes !
j. Until now I don't recogniced penalties. There are black flags if you try
to take a short cut over the grass. The car is automatically slowed down.
k. Friday and Saturday session !
l. Yes
m. Yes
n. Electrical defects can be fixed. Also Tyres and Wings can be fixed
o. Yes it is
p. No. It needs only the CD in the drive

If you want to know who is in front in GP1 you can use a little tool called
GPGAP. It can be configured to show the first 10 places and the gaps between them
In the moment I don't know the exact adress but I look for the adress

Tim Barn

GP 2 is out in Germany !!!

by Tim Barn » Fri, 19 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I'll try to answer some of these as I've played the game at Future Publishing
(PC Gamer, Format etc - but no, I don't work there). I'm an 'average' F1GP
driver, eg 1:15 at Brazil.

: Thanks Andi, for this wonderfull update... but I want to hear more,
: more more.....

: a) Is it much more difficult than F1GP 1 ?

Not sure, it's different, and feels more real. At the moment it feels more
difficult but that may change when I get a chance to play it more.

: b) Can you compete for the 1st place in every race already?
:    (if yes at what level)

I could come first at novice, sometimes amateur. The main trouble
I had is that the brakes lock really easily with keyboard control, so you
have to do your braking in a straight line, there's no chance to brake a bit
into the turn if you leave it a bit late.

: c) Who is driving the second Benneton?? (Jos? Johnny? JJ?)

Can't remember.

: d) What track do you like best and why??

Monaco's really cool with all the scenery on.

: e) Which tracks are new compared with F1GP1 and which are left out?

Not sure here, there's definitely no Phoenix.

: f) Is the game still nice in VGA ??? (better than ICR2 in VGA??)

Yep, but I prefered SVGA with very little texturing. I've never played
ICR2.

: g) what happens when you get stuck in de sandtraps.. do you leave the
:    race or can you continue after some seconds ??

You can usually get out of gravel traps, but waste loads of time doing so.

: h) Do computercars still crash easily like they did in the Beta-versions?

Dunno.

: i) are there still 26 cars in each race,??

Yes.

: j) are there stop and go penalties ??? or Black flag ????

You get a black flag if you go too far off course/hotlap, eg if you try
to cross the chicane after the tunnel at Monaco.

: k) are there one or two qualifying sessions ?

Two

: l) is there a speeding limit in the Pit?

Yes, 50 Mph.

: m) can you steer and brake in the pit or does the computer do this
:    like in F1gp1 ??

I think most of the steering is done for you.

: n) When there is a failure in your car can you (when its not that bad)
:    get it fixed in the Pit ore are you just out of the race?

You can get it fixed in the pits.

: o) Is the computer car's AI really that good (like you can recognise Alesi from
:    by his driving style)?

I didn't notice individual drivers' styles, but overall the AI is really good,
the other cars do much more to get out of your way / overtake you than in
F1GP. They'll dive down the inside given the slightest chance or mistake
by you.

: p) Do you have to give a word from the manual again when you start up the game?

No, but I think you need the CD in the drive at startup.

: I hope to get some answers ,

Hope that helps, it is really good, the sound is great, and I was constantly
pausing to replay overtaking manouvers, big crashes etc. I didn't manage to
loop the loop or crash upside down, but you can fly a long way if you get a
crash 'just right', and the replay's really cool.

In F1GP2 the key for it is "G" like "gap" !!!
Do you know if there's anything coming like GPED (or F1ED ?) to edit your Helmet ??
