GP 2 is out in Germany !!!

by Ruediger Gemmri » Mon, 15 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi everyone,

Grand Prix 2 is on sale in Germany! I bought it yesterday in a Karstadt
Company shop. It is the fully German version. Even the***pit display
in the game is in German. They had about 50 copies of it there at
Karstadt. I played it and it is much fun even on my 486 DX-2/66 although
i can run it in VGA only with most details off due to graphics speed.
But I get 17 frames per second and it is sufficient for me. It is really
great especially the spectacular accidents with (my) car flying through
the air when hitting another car. The artificial intellicence of the
drivers is very impressive. One time I had Jean Alesi zigzagging wildly
behind me at Hockenheim when he tried to find a way to overtake me. You
can see it in the back mirrors that it is him and not Gerhard Berger
because he is very aggressive. The car behaves very nervous when you
hit the curbs because you loose a lot of ground effect. I have got a
Thrustmaster T1 steering wheel unit and you can adjust it in the
options and save the settings to a file. You only have to calibrate
it the first time you set the options. It works great with the game,
much much better than with F1GP. The game comes on a CD-ROM with a color
manual and a little introduction manual.
There is no question for a word out of the manual when you start the
game like in F1GP. My version is 1.0b.

I think you can buy it the next days in the other countries.

Stay tuned

On the box it says 486 DX-2/66 minimum, DX4 advised, pentium best. And
besides that: it runs on my DX-2/66 with 17 fps!

No , that's wrong. The min. requirement is a 80486 DX2-66 and the
recommended processor is a DX4 . Believe me , I bought it in Germany
3 days ago .

Now it's OUR turn to invade Germany instead of the other way round ;-)

I advise you to close all windows and doors, 'cause I'm coming to get Grand Prix

Can you be a bit more specific about "most details off" ? Is it sufficient to
disable all textures to get 25 fps?

Just curious....

Hi,

Sorry, the text is not in English...

GP 2
13.07.96
99,- DM
inkl.

- keine Netzwerk-Option
- Wetteroption?

Positiv:
- alles andere...

So, jetzt muss ich aber wieder spielen...

Ciao

What do You want to know?
Car physics are fantastic. The car gets instable if You hit the curbs
because you lose ground effect. I'm an old experinced driver at F1GP but
Grand Prix 2 makes a rookie out of me again. I never had so much wheel
spinning and brakes locking (and therefore exploring the gravel traps he
he) before. If you brake down at hi speed with a steering wheel pedal
unit you have to release the brake pedal a little bit when slowing down
under 60mph/100kph otherwise the brakes will lock then. In the setups
you can lower the car body at front and rear so the different ground
effect causes understeer or oversteer. The wooden plank gets damaged if
you lower the car body to much. There are telemetric displays where you
can see the differences between laps: rpm, mph/kph, steering, brakes,
wheels, acceleration etc.

There is so much new, so if You want to know more ask me then.

Stay tuned

Do you really think that anyone who has bought the game will take the
time to read, let alone post to, this news group? ;-)  If I had the game,
I probably would call in sick to work for a whole week and chain myself
to the computer!

GP 2 is out in Germany !!!

by Baenisch_Andreas_HL_STE_LAY_ » Wed, 17 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi

I had to try 3 Karstadt shops in Munich to get my copy. What a race ! I got the last of
10 copys. Who said that the games costs 120 DM ? I only paid 99.95 DM !

My 486DX2/66 PCI/Cirrusgraphic 1MB gives a performance of 17 fps VGA with
nearly all details on. I only turned of SKY and FENCES. I only disabled the
most textures in the mirrors ! only the track and smoke is turned on. But
I can only says that the game runs fine with those settings in Interlagos
Only i go into the box they detaillevel is a little bit to high for my computer.
ALT D has the function as in GP1. Turn down the Trackdetail in 4 steps.
So you can turn of bothering details if the spped is not sufficient !
So you can see that my configuration is very old but GP2 is playable !

Breaking is a little bit tricky. You can easily lock up the front tyres and it
needs a little bit experience to get the right braking point. Now the most
functions of GPPERF GPLAP GPGAP are included.
The carsetup has gotten more complex then GP1 but the datalog is very good so that
you can easily improve you car. It logs the Speed, Distance from Ground, RPM,
RPM of every wheel, Groundcontact of every wheel usw.
In cause of the rules of the 1994 saison you have to be careful with the woodplate
mounted at the bottom of the car. (Schumacher SPA 1994) !

I still have to tried to turn all textures off because 17 fps are sufficient for
me but i think that it should be possible to reach the 25 fps

I tried the game on a frieds 166 MHz Pentium 256kB Burst Cache and
32 MB 60ns FPM RAM in SVGA and a SPEA V7 MIRAGE 2MB (old one).
You can run the game in full details an 25 fps but is's very slow !
If you turn of some mirrordetails the game is really getting fine !
The Graphic is still brilliant and the detail level is adequte

The sound is great ! You can hear the gears changing and if you shift down
the hole gear gets a little bit nervous ! Great driving feeling !
If you are behind another car you are able to your opponent shifting down
Little flames*** out of the exhaust pipe. If the car has contact to ground
the car emitts sparks.

Overall the best I ever played !

You can chosse between three installationtypes
Minimum 9MB
Normal 47MB
Best   58MB

So clean up your harddisk !

Thanks Andi, for this wonderfull update... but I want to hear more,
more more.....

a) Is it much more difficult than F1GP 1 ?
b) Can you compete for the 1st place in every race already?
   (if yes at what level)
c) Who is driving the second Benneton?? (Jos? Johnny? JJ?)
d) What track do you like best and why??
e) Which tracks are new compared with F1GP1 and which are left out?
f) Is the game still nice in VGA ??? (better than ICR2 in VGA??)
g) what happens when you get stuck in de sandtraps.. do you leave the
race or can you continue after some seconds ??
h) Do computercars still crash easily like they did in the Beta-versions?
i) are there still 26 cars in each race,??
j) are there stop and go penalties ??? or Black flag ????
k) are there one or two qualifying sessions ?
l) is there a speeding limit in the Pit?
m) can you steer and brake in the pit or does the computer do this
   like in F1gp1 ??
n) When there is a failure in your car can you (when its not that bad)
get it fixed in the Pit ore are you just out of the race?
o) Is the computer car's AI really that good (like you can recognise Alesi from
   by his driving style)?
p) Do you have to give a word from the manual again when you start up the game?

I hope to get some answers ,

Greetings Patrick...
