Nostalgia: The ORIGINAL INDY 500 (lap times, etc)

by Erik Fra » Mon, 24 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I was digging through my closet and discovered my original floppies
of the *old* "Indy 500" simulator.  I used to love this game and played
it quite frequently.  Anyway, I loaded it back up and began to circulate
the track.

Anyone else still have this game?  I played with the setups and, in the
practice session, managed the following lap:

Lola/Buick
38.52    233.64mph

I qualified on the pole at something like 231.xx mph.(didn't write it
down)

Can anyone go faster?  I'd love to make a contest out of it.  Fastest one
lap-outright lap, and fastest four lap qualifying.

I'd love to hear some replies,

Erik Frank

Yep.  And yep.  As a matter of fact, that's what got me interested in
going open wheel simulating.  And then led me to join PRO (Papyrus Racing
Organization - an IndyCar Racing league).

I've hot lapped a 234.xxx but don't remember what the last digits are,
and I got the setup off of a guy who claims to be able to tweek it to do
240.xxx +.

Not bad.  I've noticed that the game is easier if you *don't* get the
pole and immediately after the race starts, take the lead.  If you are on the
pole, it seems like they all want to run over you quickly.

See the above.  As a matter of fact, I got the setup off of this
newsgroup a few weeks ago...

I need to purchase the updated version.

240???  Hmm.  I'm suspicious unil he posts his lap times.  I will attempt to go faster now.

Yeah, they don't seem to gun for you if you lay back and "sand-bag" it for a while.

I'd love to get ahold of that setup to attempt to verfiy those claims.

I think my car setup has at least a 234 hot lap left in it, and I think I could run 232 for the
pole.

Anyone else?

Later,
Erik

Yeah, it's not that hard to do 240 plus (I've done about 242 but I
know of people who have done higher).

I don't know about them, but with the settings I was using to get that
time I could only do one hot lap. About halfway through the next lap
the engine always blew up... :-)
